Broken 360 ?
« on: February 02, 2020, 09:26:00 PM »

I have a launch day 360, been working great since I bought it.  Never had any issues at all.  I went to turn it on today, got no video and after 1 minute 3 red lights.  I unplugged all the cables and HD, reconnected everything still have the same problem.  Tried turning it on a few times and it worked once.  I manged to play PGR3 for 2 hours just fine.  Turned it off, tried it again a few hours later and the same problem.  Error code looks to be 0022.  Any suggestions as to what the problem might be ?  I was going to attempt the heat gun trick tomorrow since it seems to be a solder joint problem from the FAQs.

In the event it is dead, I will buy a new console but I am concerned that I won't be able to flash the drive and play my backups.  Its been a while since  have followed the modding scene.  Are all 360 dvd drives flashable without soldering ?  What are the chances I can take my current drinve (hiatchi 47j) and use it in my new console ?  I'm in Canada btw.

For DVD-ROM info, read the DVD-ROM forum's pinned topics. Don't do the heatgun unless it's your last resort. Error code 0022 is the GPU I believe, try replacing the X-Clamps, using any of the several methods available, and of course, change the thermal paste. If it works, it works, if it doesn't, send it out for a reflow or a reball if you can afford to.

I will try that method 1st.  I found the info about modding the drives.  From what I read all drives are flashable via software except the Hitatchi 79 and Benq drives.  Are these drives more prominent in certain systems (core, premium, bundles) or is it simply luck of the draw ?  I would probably get a core since I already have a premium system and can swap the cables and harddrive.
