Port: 170, Master/slave: A0
« on: October 20, 2007, 11:35:00 AM »

I am using an MS25 Samsung drive, I have an Nforce (not sure which version, PC is 1 year old) chipset.

The DVD drive shows up in BIOS, but when I use the boot stick (USB), and use mtkflash r /m orig.bin OR mtkflash r /sata orig.bin, I get the message port: 170, Master/slave: a0.  I have to hit CTRL-C to get out of it because it just hangs there.

I tried xtreme boot maker, but either I don't know how to use it or it isn't working either.  I really need to get this firmware off this drive so I can put it on another samsung drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this the stock ms25 FW or has it been flashed before? If it's a hacked one that's based on the ms28 FW and you'll have to treat the drive as an ms28.

If it's a stock ms25 then try another SATA port and try mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin

If your board has an Nforce2 chipset you'll have problems too, look on the motherboard and find the model number and see what it really is and try another PC if ya can.

It's stock ms25 fw.  I tried your suggestion, of trying another port but no luck.

I'll try to find what version it is on the motherboard... in  the meantime, I discovered that I get a different error message when I unplug all the IDE devices, disable them in bios and only run the SATA port.  MTKFlash tells me something to the effect of "Drive Not Found," and that's it.  So it's definitely something to do with MTK not recognizing the SATA ports (Secondary or Primary).  (I was worried it might be the DVD drive's board was fried.)
