X-clamp Problems...
« on: October 17, 2007, 03:59:00 PM »

Sooo, I've got an xbox here that gives the ol' 3RLOD. I've done multiple x-clamp replacements and all have worked to this day....

I have tried lawdogs method, RBJ's MKI and MKIII, tried the 2/3 penny trick, tried swapping washers out, tried messing with tightness of the bolts, and all of these mixed and combined, and not one has worked yet. I eitehr get 0102 or 0020 error codes... Not once have I gotten a good boot up, and I'm thinking it's time to tell this customer his xbox needs a reball or a new mobo, or is there anything else I can try because I'm out of ideas and patience.... X-clamp Problems...

i repaired one yesterday with tortuga's method (used a M5 die because 10-32 is impossible to find in portugal)

it had the 0102, booted up great without any heat gun / overheat / towel tricks, just make sure you screw the mobo into the chassis before testing it, on my first try i had the mobo unscrewed and it booted but frozen on me  on the xbox logo intro twice, then i screwed (as in assembling not braking) the mobo into the chassis and it booted without problems, earlier today i've done a big PES 6 marathon with it and i hadn't one single freeze or error (knock on wood)

the 0020 error is usually because the screws are too tight, so i've heard, i never really got one with this error yet.

hope you can fix it mate

cheers
