« on: October 15, 2007, 04:38:00 PM »

What does it mean if im currently playin PGR4.....with my xbox constantly flashing 3 Red lights at me?
i did the xclamp fix recently, and fixed the problem.
But i mean this is just pure weird
its been like it for an hour, no change in performance, no slow downs or any issues!
Any ideas?

I had this happen just the other day as a matter of fact.  Turned it back off and on again. It was fine for a day or so then the 3RLOD came back but this time it would boot and give the error E79, which according to the Pinned in the Hardware forums means that there is a device drive problem of some sort.  I rebooted again and nothing no error screen just the 3RLOD.  Ended up doing the heat gun fix again! and it is working again for the time being.

Also this xbox has been giving me trouble for a while now.  It has the xclamp fix, the XCM high speed fan and some talismoon fans, and is in the XCM Hot Rox case, accourding to the temp from the Hot Rox case the "Air" and i say Air because the case does not give an acurate temp of the CPU or GPU, is at 37C.  I'm close to saying no more and going out and getting myself a used core system, but who knows.

It could fail again before long (and most likely will at some point) or run like that for who knows how long. There seem to be a connection or two that will cause the thing to 3RL, but has no effect on how the 360 works in general and it is odd to see it function while showing that. I'm not sure if ya can get a controller to sync while it's doing that, and ya for sure loose the status function of the RoL. It will either 3RL and not work or get fixed again (for who knows how long) if ya go messing with the bolts again. I'd look into having it reflowed as that's a 'best option' to getting it repaired again.

thanks guys!
Sorry RDC but what exactly is "reflowed"?

my controller disconnected randomly, but i turned the controller back on and it reconnected fine :S

@ gabe
i have had no error codes at all
either it loads, or simply displays a black screen and then shows 3rlod after like 2 mins
and yeah i have been messin with the bolts but cant seem to find a position that stays fixed for along time
i think the screws are moving due to the spinning of the dvd drive
so i mite find a setting that works then glue gun them down??

I also have done the x-clamp fix, however it doesnt last very long nor the heatgun method. The best solution I have found is to disconnect the fans,  with av cable in turn on & leave for 2:30 min (may show 2lights meaning overheating try the power button to turn off, if it wont then it has worked (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) switch it off at the mains) . This will allow the broken solder balls to reskin to the board and chip, leave it off for aprox 20mins before turning on. You could make a swtich to the fan which would save time opening if needed to do this again.

Best of luck

f it keeps running with the 3 damn lights , means its nothing on the mother board , not cpu nor gpu , otherwise the game was gonna freeze or so ....

but could be the drive has a certain problem ...

Sorry RDC but what exactly is "reflowed"?

Were the thing is heated up (properly) in an attempt to resolder the bad connections of the GPU/CPU that are causing the 3RLOD issues.

Over heating your 360 on purpose does not resolder jack, people need to stop with that, it also does nothing to 'soften up' the solder, it's only making the board/chip expand so the broken connections make contact again, then clamping down on it with more pressure from the X-clamp mod to hopefully keep them together, but it's nothing close to what a proper reflow attempts, nor is the heatgun method, and if ya are entertaining the latter idea to save some money don't get upset if it dies on ya from it and it makes it more difficult to be reflowed properly in the long run if it is done.

Incorrect, this issue is GPU/CPU related and I have experienced it first hand as well, it's not a drive issue at all.

thanks for all the input guys
so i turn it on this mornin
and it seems it doesnt start UNTIL the 3lod come on? :S
i power on, and it black screens for like a minute (no green lights on the ring)
then 3rlod come on and it loads up fine and i can play it

so RDC you recommend that i turn off fans, leave on for a few minutes
then tighten up all my bolts?

defo not a drive problem, the drive works fine (hitachi)
spins up fine and is having no reading errors (plus its nothing to do with 3lod)

EDIT: apart from maybe the vibrations of the drive is shaking my bolts loose? cos they've always moved when i open it up

I recommend having it reflowed properly and then the X-clamp replacement mod done to it, that would be your best bet and since it is working (for the most part) it has a much better chance of being resolved for a longer time frame having it 'fixed' properly. Over heating the thing on purpose I do not recommend. Just tightening or loosening the bolts a little bit may stop it from doing that also, it may also send it back to the 3RL state with no video and not booting up either, hence why having it reflowed is your best option, but will cost ya $50~$75 or so to have it done. It's entirely up to you as to what ya wanna try on it though, that's just my recommendation.

RDC, where do you suggest getting a board reflowed? I wouldn't even begin to guess where to go to get that done.

By the way, nutty problem. I say enjoy it while you've got it, because it seems a little volatile if you ask me.
