Is This The Southbridge? How Many Ram Memories Are There?
« on: October 13, 2007, 12:42:00 PM »

So far ive applied 2 vga ram heatsinks on "A" and 4 more underneat the GPU/CPU heatsinks (I used a dremel to get room for the sinks, otherwise they wouldnt fit).

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v32/Skynet/photo.jpg)

Is "B" the southernbridge (RAM)? If so will these fit the size?

ThermalTake A1933 Aluminum RAM Heatsink
Dimension: 20x9x6 mm
Heatsink Material: Aluminum
Thermal Adhesive: 3M 9448B
Weight: 18g

Is this right: 3 ram chips on the top - southern and the 2 vga ram ones (see picture A)
underneat theres 4 more meaning in total theres like 7 vga memories i can use heatsinks for?

And finally what is "C" another ram chip?

A is correct for the 2 RAM chips, there's also 2 under the GPU heatsink, and 4 on the bottom of the board. You can put heat sinks on the 2 exposed on the top, and thermal pads on the other 6, if you want to. B is the NAND flash, C - I'm not too sure of, but I believe it's the network chip.

Yup, C is the Ethernet chip. That one is the ICS chip, there is also a much smaller BCM chip (square shaped) that can be in the same spot instead though.

The Southbridge is the one there with the silver circle in the middle of it.

Ah thanks for the info, I used heatsinks on the ram chips underneath the GPU - 4 of them. And 2 above, I didnt know you had 2 more under the GPU  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Thanks for the top! is there a point for me to use a heatsink on the southbridge?

So i guess im all covered then in terms of heatsinks then?

I read another user - marutidriver used 20x9x6 mm heatsinks, but where on earth would he use those? All my heatsinks are 13x13x13 and 13x13x6 certainly NOT 20  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

There's no real advantage to putting a heatsink on the Southbridge at all, personal preference is all.

You ca put a larger heatsink on the RAM, it's not gonna hurt anything as long as you make sure they don't touch any other components on the board. Having a slightly larger heatsink than the RAM chip is would be better anyway, more surface are to dissipate the heat, but not so large as it interferes with other components and airflow into the GPU heatsink.
