Error E74 Error Code 1022
« on: October 10, 2007, 07:59:00 PM »

Hi all my friends 360 has craped out but am not getting 3 red lights. When it is turned on led 3 (bottom right of ring) flashes red repeatedly and on the screen is the message 'E74'. I also looked at the hidden error code and it is 1022. In the error codes faq it says:

'There is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In rare cases it is a problem with the GPU.'

I know it isnt the HD cable as have tested with a working one. This 360 has been modded so no warrenty. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Like the x-clamp method etc. Also any way I can tell if its the ANA or HANA chip or if its the GPU?

I should add, 2 days before the 360 crapped out my friend reports it was 'snowing' like a graphical glitch while watching dvd movies. He hadnt played a game for a week or so.

Any help or advice would be a lifesaver!

Some people have fixed this by heat gunning the ANA/HANA chip, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. There are a few people on these forums that can do repairs, they might be your best bet.

The E74 error is GPU related try the xclamp fix and if that doesn't work get it reflowed. If you like do the xclamp fix only on the GPU that's were your problem, is the solder balls under the GPU have seperated from the motherboard usually caused by a cold solder joint, temperature cycling or elongated balls during manufacturing.

Thanks very much for your help! I'm gonna open it up and look for damage and if I dont see any I'll go the x-clamp method. If that dosnt work I'll heat gun the ANA chip 2. i'll post here how I go. Thanks again!

Apparently there's nobody that do the reflow/reball in Sydney coz i think the reballing station cost too much. So if anyone that claim they do it, i think they are only doing the heating/x-clamp/cooling fix.
