Xbmc Screen Size Problem
« on: July 02, 2004, 05:46:00 AM »

Hey guys, I'm new to XBMC.  I got the SMB shares working and it plays all my vids/music/pics from my PC perfectly.  Awesome, I like it!!!  Great job!

My problem is with the screen size.

I have a 65" Sony HDTV and am running XBMC in 720p.  I specifically bought this TV because it's true 720p, it doesn't upconvert to 1080i.

My problem is that the main XBMC screen is cut off on my TV.  If I adjust the UI in the settings menu, it changes the position of the screen but not the size.

If I lower the UI position, I can't see the newsfeeds at the bottom but can see the buttons on the top left.  If I raise the UI position, I can see the newsfeeds but can't see the buttons on the top left.

I saw there is a Video Calibration menu there but that only works for videos being streamed or played from the local XBox HD, it does not adjust the size of the main screen.

Is there a way I can manually adjust this somewhere or am I basically screwed?

TIA!  <

basically yeah- you may be able to resize skins manually (by editing the skin's xml files possibly) but that is quite a lot of hard work  <

In addition to editing the skin it's the overscan on your set.  You can tweak overscan in the service menu settings.  Try some place like www.avsoforum.com or www.hometheaterspot.com.  FYI - write down all you user menu settings before you mess with anything.  Make sure you review and know what you are doing.  Most people shoot for somewhere around 4-5% as sometimes going with less can keep a portion of regular broadcasts from filling the screen (this variation in broadcasts is why there is such a thing as overscan in the first place).

Also just an FYI - any fixed pixel display will be progressive so every dlp or lcd based hdtv is 720p native at this point (with a few high-end 1080p exceptions).  Most every CRT based set will be 1080i native.  So you end up with scaling one way or another.  Either 720p inputs become 1080i or 1080i inputs become 720p.  No set right now handles both natively.
