Xmbc - Smb - Access Denied.
« on: July 01, 2004, 08:23:00 PM »

Boy, it sure would be handy if the search engine was working again... as I'm sure this has been answered before.

I am trying to setup my Samba shares..  And they work just fine.  That is the first one in each group (pictures, videos, and music) works just fine.

However, if I add a second:

   <bookmark>
    <name>Photo Collection</name>
    <path>smb://192.168.2.100/Photos</path>
  </bookmark>
   <bookmark>
    <name>Photo Collection 2</name>
    <path>smb://192.168.2.100/Photos2</path>
  </bookmark>

The second Photo Collection 2 will get an ACCESS DENIED error, even though I've set everything up exactly the same way I did the first one.

Another example:

   <bookmark>
    <name>Karaoke</name>
    <path>smb://192.168.2.100/KaraokeMusic</path>
  </bookmark>
   <bookmark>
    <name>MP3s</name>
    <path>smb://192.168.2.100/MP3s</path>
  </bookmark>

The Karaoke (which I setup second) doesn't work.. but the MP3s work just fine.

Anyone out there with a possible solution?

Thanks folks.

d.

You could always take a look in the pinned topic  :D  were you can find guids on how to setup samba on pC and Linux and how you should edit you xml file.

What I can see you are not using user and password and that could be you problem. If you are using windows I think you might need workgoup also. But all that can be found in the sticky post. Good luck  <

Yah, I guess the next step is to try setting it up with a password and going that route.  But I read (in the stickys, actually) that this is the way to do it if you don't have a password set.

Oh well.

Thanks!

Now just for giggles, try adding a / to the end...

Just make sure the user you're connecting as has read permissions, as well as share permissions setup (in 2 places).  If it works for one and not the other, I suspect permissions.  <

If you take a look at the examples in XboxMediaCenter.xml you can read this

So to beable to use the one you are using you have to enable guest login. But if you connect to the internet I would not recommend this because this is a big security risc. But using a account with out any password is also bad.
So you should use this one if you don't have guest log in on.

It is off by default in windows  <
