Xclamp Mod Survival Duration?

I did RBJtech's method and it's been working for about two and a half months now. I had an error code 0102. It worked first time I booted it up after doing it. Since then, I've removed it 3 or 4 times to get at the bottom of the motherboard, but every time that I put it back on it worked. Just to reinforce what RBJ said, if you do any x-clamp replacement method and need to overheat it (towel trick, unplug fans, heat gun), then it WILL break again. So I think it would be a good idea if everyone that had their's break would post what method they used and whether or not they had to overheat it.

Lawdawg's.  Never overheated with a towel.

Lasted about a month.  Then it was 3ROL on and off for number of durations every time I redid it ranging from a couple minutes to two weeks.

Now, it's at a dead consistent 0102.

The problem I have with Lawdawg's method is that he actually instructs you to overheat it while you are doing it (I believe it's step 7 where he tells you to turn it on without the fans plugged in and leave it on until you get 2 red lights). The problem with this is that it should only take the x-clamp replacement to fix the 360. If you need this step to fix your 360, then it won't last. The result is that many of the people that used Lawdawg's method still have a working 360, because those 360s didn't need the overheat in the first place, and therefore it wasn't the overheat that fixed it.

I have four Xbox 360s that I performed lawdawg's method.  Two of them are giving me sass about 3 ROL (worked for 2 weeks) while the other two still work (been working for six months).

Do you suggest I try RBJtech's?  I don't know how to drill very well, and don't have a tool for it.  What tool/brand should I buy and what is the price range?

Suggestions please.  I don't know what to do.

If I need a reflow or reball, I've tried searching, and I found no one who can do those services on this board.

I had my 360 x-clamped by someone 3 months ago and it was working absolutely perfectly until about 3 days ago.  It started with an audio spike and a frozen screen.  Since then it didn't get out of the 3RLOD until I decided to do the old towel trick yesterday.  It now gives me green lights but will freeze within 3 minutes of either watching a DVD or playing a game (it'll last forever if I'm just on the dashboard or looking through Xbox marketplace)

3 months of heaven... *sigh*

Not sure wot is going on with mine, i fixed it with RBJtech's method, it worked for about 3 months and then 3RLOD came back again.  I opened it back up again and fixed it however now the fix only ever lasts about one day.  As soon as I go to play it again it f..ks up...   I don't even bother putting the lid back on now as I can fix it in seconds without it.

I used Lawdoggs method in April or May 2007 and it still runs perfectly around 20-30hrs per week. Performed RBJTechs cooling mods and also cut out the metal and plastic grillls and sing 12v Talismoon fans. I didn't have to overheat/heat, it booted up cold after I replaced the x-clamps and like RBJTech mentioned, hence I may have a better chance of my 360 running strong, fingers crossed.

I still need to perform the Aftercooler mod, soon!!

I did the LawDog's Fix back during the beginning of June 2007, and just last week it the 360 gave me a slight video problem, but I rebooted and everything has worked fine since then.  Also after I did the fix, I didn't have to overheat the onsole for it to boot properly.  I only play my 360 around 11 hours a week though.

So has anyone done the xclamp mod even if the system is working perfectly fine?
Or is it one of those things where there's no point messin with it until it's broken?

Yeah, I remember a month or so ago there was a guy who did the X-Clamp mod on a perfectly good box, and ended up temporarily putting his box down for the count. biggrin.gif

If it 'ain't broke, don't fix it. If you've already got a dead one, it's most definitely worth a shot.
