A word of advise: Having the warranty sticker intact on a RRoD'ed console is no guarantee that it will be easily fixed, as it could have been overheated to death with the towel trick.
MarutiDriver is bang on with this one. Buying a broken system is risky you could end up with a console that cannot be repaired.
But if you insist on trying to buy one here are some that you should stay away from:
- consoles that have been toweled fixed
- consoles that have been heat guned
- consoles when the red light comes on immediately with the except of the ones with secondary error 0020 these can usually be repaired with a reflow.
- consoles with the red light that come on after an approx. 11 seconds delay, this is usually a dead GPU no reflow or reball will fix this problem
- consoles with stretched polygon, spikes and dots, this a ram related problem which is too costly to repair.
- consoles that won't power up.
There are others but these are the major ones that I can think of. All I can say is there no sure way of knowing if the console is repairable, getting the attempted repairs history can help make the right decision. There also no guarrantee that the xclamp fix with repair the console either.
