Changing Out The Dvd Drive For 3red Light 0021

Just bought a 360 off a friend for $60 said it was messed up and didnt want it or deal with sending it in. so i brought it home, plugged it in and there were 3 red lights blinking so i researched the site and see its kind of a problem. i dont know if i can send in the unit but im wondering if it would just be easier to buy something to fix this problem since im planning to MOD my 360 anyhow..
