Lightning Strike, Xbox 360 Ethernet Card, Shot...
« on: September 05, 2007, 10:23:00 AM »

So a huge lighting bolt struck  near my house and it took out my ethernet card slot on my 360. I tried every cat 5 cable in the house still no go. I know the cable that runs to my xbox 360 is fine because I plug in my laptop and it works. So my question I dont wanna send it in becasue I cant its been opened. Second I dont wanna use the wireless xbox 360 adapter . So is there any usb to ethernet plugs that will work on the 360?

Here is one i was looking at I know most need drivers.

No USB Ethernet adapter except the M$ one will work on the 360.

Does your motherboard have the ICS or smaller BCM Ethernet chip in it?

EDIT: Typo

You can have someone else open it and look. wink.gif

If ya pull off the left side cover, HDD side, you can look in there and see the Ethernet chip. It sits right behind the Ethernet port and is either a rectangle (ICS), or a tiny little square (BCM), this is what  the IC chip looks like from that point of view.

Which is in yours? the ICS or BCM? The chip would have to be gotten from another 360 board, and I do have one of each board version here that I can get one from, so I could give it a go if ya wanted. On the XBOX when it was hit by lightning and the NIC died all that was taken out was the ICS chip, so it stands to good reason that may be all that's wrong with yours as well. You'd really have to replace it and see though to know for certain. PM me if yer interested.
