Changing Xbox 360 Motherboard.

You need to get the key from the DVD-ROM that was with the motherboard you bought, you need the actual drive to do this, there is no other way as of now.

If you bought the new motherboard and it didn't come with the key (32 characters long, something like 3AC3016DDC29702FCB759ED4AC010D7D and it's different for each 360/DVD) then you bought a good, but completely useless even if it does work, new motherboard. That key should have either come with the thing, or been mailed to you, if it wasn't there's nothing you can do about getting your drive, or any other drive save the original one, working 100% on it.

You are referring to the key from the original DVD drive correct? It's going to do you no good to have the key from your DVD drive at all since it's mated to your old motherboard.

It depends on what DVD drive model/version you have now (Hitachi v46, 59 etc., Samsung ms25, ms28), as well as what the model/version of the original one was too. If they are different you're going to have to spoof the FW of your drive as well as inject that key into the FW. Spoofing the FW has to be done because if the drives are different models it's likely to throw an error about it.

The answer is yes then, since you have the key from the original drive.

Tutorials for all of that are in the Newbie Chat and Technical DVD-ROM forums. If ya don't have a compatible SATA chipset you'll need to get that first off, it's all explained in the tutorial by Textbook and there are others that deal more specifically with going from one drive model to another, which is what you'll be doing.
