So I got a 360 from eBay, sold as faulty with the 3RLOD. Someone had already tried to fix it, but it was a bit of a mess. The X-clamps had been replaced, but the screws didn't look anywhere near tight enough, also there was no shim which in my (brief) experience is necessary - or at least can definitely fix the 3RLOD where a heatsink without one fails.

So I replaced the screws, tightened it up securely, plugged in the power and AV (no fans or DVD drive) and it worked! Booted up first time! Thought I had it sorted, so I added the fans and tried again. Got one red light and Error 73 - ethernet port problem. Now I get this every time - with or without fans. I've had it stripped completely down again, replaced the thermal paste, done it up again - E73. Stripped it down again, completey double checked the motherboard, looks perfect, checked for shorts, any metal dust on the board, nothing. The secondary error code is 1021. Leaving it on for a couple of minutes gives two red lights and 0011.

And a weird thing is, if I connect the DVD drive it won't power on at all. So - no DVD drive = 1 red light and E73 1021,  then 2 red lights and 0011. With DVD drive - dead 360.

Anyone got any way to solve this?
