What Are Good Temps For The Cpu And Gpu?
« on: July 15, 2007, 01:04:00 AM »

i have installed a temp lcd in my box and i get:

45c (CPU idle)
53c (GPU idle)

50c(CPU after two hours of the darkness)
63-66c(GPU after two hours or the darkness)

i installed the probes right beside the cores under the heatsinks and reapplied AS5. i also have my fans cranked. i think it takes about 100 hours for the thermal paste to cure, but these are my current right after modding temps.

heres a pic of the lcd

Hi ...

CPU looks consistent with mine (50 Deg C) but your GPU looks very hot !  I had mine down to 47 Deg C with stock Fan voltage .. see here.

temps...

Neat install btw - but how much of the left side air vents have you now restricted for the GPU ?  Could be the reason it's a tad warm ... (have you any air flow mods to the GPU heatsink ?)

oh ive done the air flow divider, covered half the GPU, 60mm fan behind the ring of light w/wire fan grill. im going to crack it open and reseat the heatsinks.

i wonder if the metal cage is causing the heatsink to not sit flush. beacause ive done every mod imaginable. after i reseated (the heatsinks) after my original post im getting 63c (GPU) at full load.

ok got my heatsinks lapped better, got a better metal cage and reapplied thermal grease. installed a 60mm fan infront of the case and made a custom scoop to force air directly at the gpu. i only had the xbox on for 20 min but my temp stayed stable a 48.8C on both CPU and GPU at idle. i didnt have time to test under load, but i will today after work.

That's better - Ambient temp is also important as a reference point - mine was 24 Deg C if I recall.  So if yours is say 26 Deg C, then add 2 Deg C to my temps as a direct comparison.

Not actually related, but I like what you've done with that temp display. Could you tell me what brand is it and where can it be bought?

its a compunurse dual probe temp display. it has two flat probes that i have fashioned directly beside the cores of the chips. i got mine on ebay. RBJTech im also close to the equator so it s pretty humid here. i think its about 24C so my temps arent quite as good as yours, but tolerable.

well apparently the darkness is a demanding game because my temps went up to 55c (GPU) and 49 C (CPU). but COD3 my temps were at 47c (GPU) and 49C (CPU). might want to test it on yours.

Hi guys. I haven't modded my 360 at all-completely stock. I was told by a supervisor at Microsoft that the systems were supposed to run at 94 degrees celsius. Umm, isn't that HOT! If thats true, then I can probably expect a lot of repairs from microsoft, right?

If we were atalking about engines I'd say yes, 94ÂșC is normal, but since we're talking about a piece of electronics, 94 is nowhere near good, it should be waaaaaaaay lower.

So basically, yes, expect a lot of repairs from them, you know, they're forced to now.
