E74 Fix After X-clamp Replacement
« on: June 19, 2007, 10:41:00 AM »

Hi, I have repair 9 xbox360 with the x-clamp replacement, but today in one of them I get error 74, so I came here to found info about it, and it didn't found something that help me, now I have dessambly the xbox again, and found that in the back of the GPU, is missing a little capacitor I think, I don't if is a capacitor or other component is a very little on, is the one that is closest to the middle of the gpu, I will try to replace it and I will tell you if I succes.

So I'm sure you can add to E74 this little things under the GPU.

(IMG:http://spa.fotologs.net/photo/26/33/110/naper360/1182192980_f.jpg)

That are the things giving me the troubles.

First I replace the broken one, and then I get the error E73, then I pull it out and just bridge the points and I get a short and then a 0022 error, so I clean all, and try again putting the little resistor and back to E73, I will check all my connections to see if I'm missing something, but I' now sure that if you get a E74 or E73 after doing a x-clamp replacement or heat gun, you broke one of this two little things, I will now try to put the resistor of a really gone dead mobo that i use to take repairs.

Well after a lot of time in this mobo I finally repair it, I took the missing parts of another mobo, and replace and that do the trick, so now I'm sure and you can add to the E74 error the possibilitty the circuits under the GPU are lose, broke or blow away.

If someone needs info of this error pm me.

As I say before, I think this is the cause of E74 after x-clamps or after reheating.

If you have E74 from the beggining is more probable that is the cable, ana chipset or the AV conector in the mobo.

Hope you understand me english, but I think is getting better with this little practice.

By the way I check the ANA chip and it looks fine, and the video conector is also fine, the conection is working, other thing in another console with E74 I change the cable for VGA and it works, so if you have E74 that also could be a solution change AV cable but for a VGA one.

The E74's been a personal torment of mine. I'll check the underside of one of my boards for any loose capacitors.

This is great news.  I got a e73 error seemingly randomly, but I notice there's a scratch next to one of those two resistors (I believe the one on the right.)  Thanks for sharing.

I've got the same problem.

I had 0020 so i tried overheating and it worked few times and then finally i did X-clamp, However 0020 was gone but i started getting E74 and E73 errors all the time.

I tried to locate the bad component as mentioned, Unfortunately i couldn't locate any as everything was looking intact, Now please help me as i'm in big trouble....

I would highly appreciate your reply... Thanks smile.gif

the xbox will work fine with a missing capacitor or two from under the CPU and GPU. replacing it will not fix the problem, and NEVER short the capacitors either.

do a reflow onthe GPU, and check the H/ANA for any disconnected pins

I Have personaly had great succes with the e74 error i had my ANA fail at first and re-aligned it and used another method to push it down at fist after i closed the xbox which worket aswel. I then had the GPU cause the error and got it to re-align aswel jus through lost of testing at gentle presuation. I can post more details on wat i did buti did it just now in another thread cald e74 147 or sumtin. I wil post my vids here

 Method i used b4 i re-aligned the ANA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3QYIkVT2lI
folow the link thers a vid that proves it works n one on cooling. Make sure they are my vids tho

Hmm I've that video before, However my problem is different, It has nothing to do with ANA/HANA chip i guess.

My error code keeps on changing as mentioned above most of the time its E74 but sometimes it's E73...

I'm trying to find out a solution for the last couple of month n now i guess is the time to bury my XBOX.

May my XBOX's rest in peace and may God have mercy on his soul sad.gif
