Use the highspeed cooler with the extra fan, which sit where the new heatsink is.

This reduced my temp from GPU 69c CPU 61c to GPU 42c CPU 39c, doubt the new heat sink could equal this.

Finally, MS has done something. Hopefully it's not just to repairs.

.. so does running the fans @ 12v but nobody wants a screaming 360 - fans @ 5.4v are noisy enough IMO..

We just want an effective QUITE cooling system - not too much to ask for a multi-billion $ company ... :-)

I wonder how complicated would be to recreate such setup oneself?

Totally out of range for the DIY'er - IMO - Heatpipes are made under vacuum conditions for starters ...

i would say that this is a fix to the problem of overheating, but am not so convinced yet - i mean, it is a MS design that resulted in this problem in the first place - so we will have to wait and see until some tests come back with data about this "new addition"

Microsoft solution to the problem is stupid, the only thing they'll do is overheat the CPU, because the CPU will get extra hot air from the GPU because of the rear fans sucking the hot air of the new heatsink throught the CPU heatsink.

Stupid microsoft, they don't have a clue...

It's good that MS atleast try to fix the heatin problem, I do hope it works and that we finally can get rid of all those silly RoD problems. One have to wonder though, if a "simple" heatpipe soution could solve this, then why did it take MS more than one year to develop it...

Mine was actually quieter with the replacement fans, still quiet noisey but better than 3 red light.

Also no more freezing up, after an 8hr session.

They really need to move the location of the GPU out from under the DVD rom drive. this will give it more room for a proper heat sink and then duct fresh cool air in from outside. It would also be best if the GPU had better control over its individual fan speed.

This is a barnacle kludge fix at best if its genuine Microcrap.  blink.gif  I'm not impressed. huh.gif

I just sent one of my 360's in over the weekend due to 3 reds of death. Hopefully I'll get this new heatsink. Ill take pics if i do

Just because Microsoft updated their heatsink design, does not mean they submit to having a flawed design to begin with.

yes they put it in there because they know they have a over heating problem,
the 65nm ( if they put it in ) is because they know that it will run cooler,

m$ KNOWS they screwed up. they are not doing this for there health. they fucked up, but like our govt, wont admit to it.

Let's just prey they ran tests during that year...

The copper pipe is awfully close to one of the already super hot ram chips. I hope the heat the pipe generates doesn't send it over the edge. It'll probably be o.k.

Or maybe because 65nm is cheaper to produce?

If/When Microsoft puts in a CPU with 65nm tech, it will exacerbate the problem with the GPU unless the address it. The 65nm CPU will run cooler thereby delaying the fan speed increase even longer. The GPU will get even hotter.
Unless:
- they change the entire board design and move the GPU.
- add independent fan speed control for the GPU
- change the GPU tech to 65nm as well. (or something similar)
- all of the above.
