The white stuff's normal. Probably some soldering residu.

Looks like some vias popped out at the black spot?

A via is copper hole which connects the top to the bottom layer of the board.

0001 is a power supply problem - if your power brick's light is orange when off, and green when you try to turn on the system, then the problem is with your motherboard. Take a picture of the other side of yoru board, where the burnt-looking spot is. It's probably a burnt out MOSFET, which can be fixed, but there might be too much damage done in the surrounding area. If this was the case, then you probably had a power surge or something like that.

If you know someone else with a 360, try using their power supply, or take it to a Gamestop and ask if they'll let you try theirs. The sucky thing is though, if you need a new power supply, it usually costs at least $100.

nope its the laquer on the board. notice how its just around the hot spots, capacitors and such. a brand new motherboard wouldnt have this. clean that spot with some alcohol it doesnt look life threatening. is the metal cage blackened too? is this a refurb?

ok, i got it all together, new AS5 applied, and got it to teh testing part... however, upon plugging it in and turning it on, i get 2 flashing red lights... numbers 1 and 3... how can this be? doesnt this mean overheating? also the center of the power button is flashing green.

any ideas?

also, when its booting, the power brick is green.  then it turns orange after a couple of seconds and hte cpu and gpu heatsinks never get hot.  so i figured i'd put the dvd drive in... by the time i hit the eject button, it ejects and i hit hte eject button to retract the tray, the xbox turns off and the tray is stuck in the middle.. however the two red lights are still flashing... i found the secondary codes: 0011

Yeah, I took mine in to gamestop too. My power supply works fine with my other motherboard too, It's more of a single component on the board that went bad (i'm assuming)

After no success of selling this thing in non-working condition in the FS forum here, I decided to mess around with it a bit more.  Here's what happened.

I was going to put all the original parts back on including hte x-clamps.  Once I remove the x-clamp replacement parts, I put all the original stuff back on, before putting the case back on I wanted to see that I would still get the 3 rings of death.  I did.  But then i did a power cycle like they recommend when doing the x-clamp replacement mod.  then NO rings of death.  that's right, its working now (dashboard shows up, played GOW for a bit with no freezing).  I didnt even really take care at all when putting the original stuff back on (eg didnt apply anymore as5, etc).  It seems to heat up fast though.  So, my question now is, what did I do wrong when I did the x-clamp replacement?  I've successfully done them in the past before this xbox, but this was the one that confused me more than anything.  any ideas?

thanks,
