Dvd-rom Misreads
« on: June 11, 2007, 12:14:00 PM »

I've recently been having problems with my DVD-Rom drive where the drive will start clicking (which I believe is the laser trying to pickup) and the disc will step-down until it's only spinning at what sounds like 1x speed, the clicking continues until the laser picks up then the drive steps up again after a few minutes.

Usually this only happens when the console is started with a disc already in the drive, is this indicative of a weak laser? The media is original with no marks on it what so ever.

Do I need to tweak the laser pot in order to resolve this issue? The problem I'm going to have is that I will not be able to be 100% sure that the adjustment has worked as it is only the initial bootup that leads to these problems, I'm yet to receive any DDE's aswell so it's not black and white as to whether the fix works or not.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and can anyone suggest by how much the dvd pot should be adjusted by?
