As much as i hate to admit it, RiPpN-N-TrIppN is completely right. Though, it is possible to get the key off the NAND flash chip (its NAND, not NADA) or whereever its stored, but only microsoft can do it, none of us have found a way, yet.

It sounds like your freind got ripped off, dont send your 360 to anyone that claims to do something like that unless you consult someone else (or someone on the forums here) just to double check the person can actually do the thing he/she claims to be able to do, and if it can even be done.

Well, next time, buy yourself a cheap flash drive with a lock switch (stops any writing or formatting) on it. For now, it looks like you have a very nice 360-shaped paperweight. Though, you will still be able to play DVDs on it, just no games.

Just about your only real option right now is to get some file recovery software and run it on your PC, then pray it hasn't been overwritten yet. The only other thing you'll be able to do is buy another motherboard with a key and inject tat one into your FW and use the new board. If you can't get the key back you have a perfectly good useless motherboard, all for the not backing up of a 256kb file.

Best thing to really do is, once ya have the key, is to write it down on a piece of masking tape, stick it to the metal cage on the bottom of the 360 and then tape over that with some clear packing tape, or even just write it on the bottom of the DVD drive with a permanent marker if ya want. It MUST be backed up for times just as this, it can't be stressed enough.

This isn't a Case/Hardware Mod either, moved to 360 General Hardware

How "broken" is this floppy? Bad data or fysically broken?

Flashing the drive via Linux on the 360 would be the only way to get the key back into the dvd-drive. You'll just have to know the cpu inside out  tongue.gif

where would i buy one of these and dose it come with the key on a peace of papper of something.
But I will try this. Can you show me where something like this can be found.
And yes the floppy if destroyed, it fell on the floor, and when i went to get up to find out where it went , my chair ran it over. sleep.gif

sorry to say, but you sound like you either have really bad luck or you're a disaster just waiting to happen.

all these thing happening at once, don't leave the house or you might get hit by a bus.

and it sounds like your friend got ripped off. His "friend" can't be much of a friend. It sounds like he mailed it to some stranger he doesn't even know.

You can either get one on eBay (notice that 360 is banned, so if you play on Live you wont be able to with that motherboard) or you can look in the 360 B/S/T section of the forums here for one. If it doesn't come with the .bin file for you to get the key from, or the key already extracted, then you don't want it.

If you haven't taken it apart then there is a chance you could salvage the floppy. You'll need another floppy which you have to take apart and replace the inner disc without without touching the magnetic coating. Then try to read the disc and do a scandisk or chkdsk-session on it and prey a lot. The key's only 8 bytes or something.

You can NOT retrieve the key from the motherboard, period.

You either need to try and recover your key from your HDD or the Floppy, like has already been suggested, or get a new/used one from eBay or the 360 B/S/T that comes with the key and use taht motherboard and key.

That's exactly what i would try first. Some undelete program that could maybe recover the lost data from your HDD. It's worth a shot. Or try "doctoring" a floppy like the other guy said.

I believe the key is 18 Chars.

In the bin it's normally line A500 - A6FF somewhere in there.

Isn't it Possible to write your own key Via Jtag, or Somekind of Programmer? (depending on Kernal of course)
