Thanks XxDUNITxX I am glade this fix helped you- and im also glade you tried takin those pads off and replaced them with pennies, thats one thing i dont have to report back on.I appreciate everyone helping out on gettin the results and the word out. Again I suggest if at first after this fix doesnt work alter it a little like XxDUNITxX did (dun-it-did smile.gif again this should work on almost all consoles, If you have a question on what you can alter to help after you've tried some things, let me know I'd be glade to help. No one should have to throw out a 360 anymore! Have a good week everyone! and keep postin' !

QUOTE(durtydawg @ Jun 10 2007, 03:07 AM) View Post

Tried it no luck, same thing fast fans then fans shut off 2 blinking lights. tried going to 8 pennies again no luck same result as above with fan and all maybe to tight never tried without screws. Maybe when I get in the mood to try again I will do that.

Initially I had the exact same problem if you read my earlier posts . . . take all the screws out and turn it on, it should now work without overheating, then keep adding screws and testing it until it overheats then you can remove or lower the tension of the offending screw.

Have any of you that attempted (and were successful) with this penny trick done the x-clamp replacement as well? My story is...I did Lawdawg's method, that worked for a little under a week then it stopped, last night I tried RBJTech's method and now I have the overheating issue (probably because I stripped the thread on one of the CPU h/s bolts...have to replace that later...and now I want to try this one...anyone in the same boat?

sounds like a good idea. I would like to try it. I'm having alot of issues with freezing 5-10 minutes into the game. I would do it immediately but my mobo is bolted down using the x-clamp replacement....

If it freezes on me 1 more time, I will take it apart and do your method. I'll let you know the outcome.

Xbox froze again today so I

Just attempted this today, used 2 pennies instead because I already have the x-clamp replacement and 3 pennies will be a little too high. I also used black electrical tape and an adhesive double side tape. Then I got the 0020 - Overheating? Something I do wrong? Seems like the memory is overheating... what else should I try?

this is where i am not sure where the problem lies cause of the x-clamp replacment part-I havent done my penny fix after a x-clamp replacment. I would have o ask you did you remove the screws from the clamps on the bottom? you want to lessin the tension, so make sure those are removed. make sure you only wrap the pennies a max of 2 times (maybe even just once) in electircal tape. and tighten the screws slowly- if you could post some pictures i could give you the exact place where you could try and fix. let me know man. we'll make it through this smile.gif

I got my system on launch day. I had error code 0020. I already had the wisperfans in to try to fix it.

I tried three pennies on each chip and when I put it back together it was very loud and had only two lights flashing. After cleaning the CPU and GPU with alcohol and using dynex silver thermal compound i put all of the screws in and tested it for a minute and it worked!

The only problem is I then put the entire case back on it and I got error 0020 again. After taking the case back off I tried to get it to work with only the t8 screws, only t10 screws and no screws and it still will not work.

You can imagine my frustration. Does anybody have any suggestions that I can try?

1.can i use aluminum tape to wrap up the pennies?(i think it would be better than electric tape (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif))
2.after i glue the pennies to the ram chips, do i put all the other screws on except for the black cpu and gpu screws???

I am also wondering if we should use older pennies or not. I had not checked out the one link reminding us that newer pennies have near zero copper in them. I used the prettiest pennis that I had because I thought that the junk on them might lessen their conductive powers. Stupid I guess?

Update: I decided to go ahead and reduce the penny stacks from 3 to 2 high and made sure that I used pennies that were made before 1982 this time instead of shiny new ones. I am still getting error code 0020 with the black t8 screws in and out.

Could somebody please stop gaming long enough to throw out a suggestion. I am so jealous and getting desperate.

You would increase the effectivness of the fix with pennies form the 70's etc. but it is not needed. as for the screw question make sure all the black x-clamp screws are out tighten down slowly- leave the top off and test- if this does not work - please list what your orig problem was - the things you've done before the penny fix- and the error you get now- sorry i have been doing wii mods the lkast week and this upcoming week. so I will be checkin in periodically. I'm sure its something small. BYEEE ALL
