I can't belive this my xbox have worked  blink.gif

I have already used x-clamp fix but no use

did this with only 1 penny (3 the screws wouldn't reach the motherboard , 2 it doesn't feels right )
so I made sure that this penny made presure on the ram
and I attach it to the ram with the sticky pad that was already there

and now it worked  biggrin.gif

will give it more tests when I install 12v fans (I notices the heatsinks gets hot the fan really don't cool anything)

just to say something the main idea of this fix is to put presure on the ram and to isolate the heat so any number of pennies would work if it does make presure on the ram ^^

Just remember people, if it doesnt work at first DONT GIVE UP. I have yet to have one I couldnt fix. This fix works EVERTIME. unless some otherfactor has ruined the board etc. or if you havent replaced the plastic left on the CPU (then youll still need to put on some thermal paste). If theres any questions you can reach me at [email protected] I rarely check this posting these days. Thanks to everyone who has gave me endorsments, I think i can run for president now!

i guess i fell into that .01% failure rate

TWICE

tried it on two consoles both with error 0020.
No luck =/

They had the x-clamp thing done on them befo.

Could that be why it wont fix it?

I think it might be the 0020 error.  My Xbox 360 has this error and I've been tinkering with the pennies and screws for about 5 hours now and nothing has worked.  All I've been able to do was make the fans spin really fast when I put the black screws back in.  I don't know if anyone else with 0020 has been sucessfull but I have seen a few other threads with people complaining that they can't get anything to work with the 0020 error.

i think you mean .1% , as 99.9% + .01% = 99.91% wink.gif

also, the 0020 you referenced seems to be an unknown error code at the moment.

0020 (Not yet known, possibly overheating)

i'm not sure xclamp or penny fix would help this.

Just a quick update...
I put the case back on and now leave it horizontal (previously was vertical), i played it all day, even did a dashboard update incase the dashboard software had become corrupted when i got 3rlod the first couple of times.
All is well with the box now, i'll let you all know when it blows up again!

Thanks again

Hmm, I don't think I have too much paster (I put AS5 on it when I first opened up everything). I know this because when it intermittently worked before, the fans would run at their usual levels for the dashboard and at a higher rate for games. Basically the best way I can describe it; it's like when you have a game in and the fans are spinning really quickly, but as soon as you hit the eject button, the fans slow down to a slower pace... Except when I hit the eject button, the fan speed doesn't change -- it stays at the "game level" speed all the time.

If anything at all, it's actually helping my 360 run cooler all the time, I'm just curious why tinkering around with the X-Clamp screws would change the fan rate and make my 360 run again... oh well.  wink.gif

Your 360 is going to break at some point permanently.

That is what happened to one of my Xboxes.

Did the penny trick, and I must say that it has worked.  I am the skeptic, and most certainly didn't believe I could fix my $400. chinese built p.o.s. with twelve cents.  At first it didn't work, but like one of the successes I wrapped it in a towel and let it run for about twenty minutes.  Restarted and it booted up no problem.  Played burnout for about an hour and a half and so far so good.  Hopefully this will be a long term fix.  I cringed at the prospects of loosing such a large investment.  Thank you so much for this information and for everyone on the scene who gives a helping hand to others.

Oh yeah, my fans sound like an afterburner kicked on.  Everything is lifted up a hair and its even kinda hard to open my disc drive.  Perhaps the relieved pressure on the top of the case has allowed the fan to run at its intended speed.  Anyways, if the fan gets loud I am certain my stereo can get even louder.  Ha ha.

Worked like a charm here too. My box gave me 3 red lights and doing the 2-penny/öre trick it came back to life after restarting once. This is my 2nd box so I'm really happy not having to buy another one... it's an expensive console in the long run. Thanks indeed!

I got my first ring of death the other day on my early generation 360.  The penny fixed WORKED LIKE A CHARM!

It took some faith in the board to screw it in and allow that bit of flex, but 3 pennies seems to be the ideal amount.  Don't worry if the stuff doesn't line up right away, when you screw it in, just do it evenly and carefully and you're golden.

A resounding THANKS!

Alright.  A month ago my Xbox 360 died with the 3RLOD with error code 0020.  I used 3 pennies and tried every screw configuration imaginable with no luck so I gave up and bought a core system.  Yesterday my friend's Xbox died with error code 0102 and I got his to work twice for about 5 minutes using 2 pennies but then it froze.  So this minimal success got me to go back and fiddle with my original Xbox, so i put 4 stacks of 2 pennies and still no luck.  So i tried one last ditch effort, I put all the screws back in tight and unplugged the fans and let it run with the 3RLOD for about 5 min (during which it turned over to 2 lights).  Then I re-booted it and it's worked fine for about an hour now.  I'm not quite sure if this fix will be remotely permanent since it does basically the same thing as the towel trick, but it is progress.

after taking apart the heatsinks from the 360 and cleaned the old thermal paste off, do i have to put new thermal paste on for the fans not to be running like crazy?
