Just tried this fix, and it works! I'll explain my story.

Started giving error 0110 with 3rlod, no reason, just did it. Tried this trick after finally getting hold of a torx t8 bit that wasnt wrecked on the end. Used 3 5c coins (australia), which are 1mm thick each. Used double sided electrical tape to stick em to the ram. After putting in all screws except the heatsinks, i had no result. So i put in the black screws and it worked! Started booting, but then would shut off. Kept doing that, then flashing the 1st and 3rd quad, meaning overheating even though they were cool. Put on the fan duct and even though the fans were at full, it was running fine. After taking out some heatsink screws 1 at a time, its working with just 2 missing. Gave it a dead rising 20 min test and its running fine.

Thought i'd post a story for people who are wondering how it works. Works well, my mate is stoked!

i am 16 and i hate that i cant play my xbox
so did some other fix that i found and i removed the arctic
silver 5 from the the gpu and cpu and i cleaned them but
i can't seem to find where to get arctic silver5 to put on
some more on the gpu and cpu. So if anybody can tell me
i would appreciate it. I mean please i need help. I was planning on
doing this fix. SO if anybody can tell me what i need to know
im sure that i can get it uo and running again with this fix.

ok after i did this i got two red lights meaning overheating
and the fans started out quiet and then they got faster
then it gave me two red lights

i did this n my xbox works great...except 1 thing..its really loud...it dosent get that hot n i get no error.itsjust loud...any ideas to fix this?

by the way i used 2 pennies n left out the black screws to get it to work

I am currently trying to recreate the turbo fan problem that occures in some machines. I have had it happen on a console awhile ago but hasnt happend since. I believe all i did was re-seat the placment of the pennies so they were a little more center. but i cant be sure until i can recreate the problem and fully test it. I do believe it occurs though with not enough/to much pressure on the ram. or that the mobo is tightend tighter somewhere just in one spot more then it should. We will find out in no time though im sure with the amount of people succeeding with this fix.

Please help report back on the "turbo fan" problem. Thanks!

You can get Dynex arctic silver from Best Buy thats where i get mine. Otherwise other electronic stores like radio shack etc. (or order it form newegg or tigerdirect) . I have even seen it in Walmart.. But i doubt thats a reliable place to go to get thermal grease haha. try your local Bestbuy or radio shack (or small referbished computer store) or else bit the bullet and order it on newegg. hope this helps

add on:I didnt specifiy the use of ANY arctic silver in this fix so i hope your doing it cause M$ left some plactic wrapped up on your cpu/gpu.

but i opened mine and looked at
the gpu and there was none on it and
it looked burned so im gonna clean it
and put some on it BUT.............

Are you supposed to do the towel fix afterwords? Some people in here did that, but in the original thread you said nothing about that. Also, just to be clear each penny is supposed to be taped individually then tapped together or are they supposed to be taped together?
