X Clamp 0102 -> 0022 Error
« on: June 02, 2007, 12:33:00 PM »

I just did an x-clamp replacement and it seemed to fix the 0102 error because now I'm getting a 0022 error.  After replacing the x clamps I booted it to a 3RLOD.  The method said to wait for it to go to 2RLOD then let it sit for a few mins to fix all the problems.  It took a lot longer than before the x clamps to get the thing to 2RLOD, probably because of the new silver compound working correctly.  I let it 2RLOD for about 3 minutes then shut it off for an hour or so. I came back hoping to see some green lights, and it did boot up and spin the DVD drive. Then it sat there for about 30 seconds and 3RLOD, with the 0022 error.  I let it sit overnight, and tried it in the morning. 3RLOD 0022 again. I tried loosening the bolts to where they were just loose enough so the heatsync didn't wobble. I got 0022 again. I tried turning each bolt 1/2 a turn then booting it until I couldn't turn the bolts any more with the wrench.  About 20 attempts later, no success. No matter how much pressure is applied to the  GPU it still gets the 0022 GPU error.
After at least 20 hours invested in trying to fix this with the heat gun fix, x clamp fix, and almost every fix on the internet I want to send it in to Microsoft but I have a window on the case and an aftermarket fan so I don't know if they would repair it, even for $140
Anyone have any suggestions? And if not...
Can anyone around Pennsylvania can fix this problem?

I'm in the same boat as you, 0022, error codes say it's a gpu error...I've tried everything.

I've spent about an hour trying every possible amount of pressure on the GPU. I overheated my system 2 times for about 5 mins each now and nothing seems to fix it like before, even if it only fixed it for a day or so.  Still no success.

I initially went through everything and got very annoyed that I couldn't get it to work. I thought I tried everything. So it took it all apart again to make sure that the nuts under the motherboard made it sit extremely flat. I got a ruler and made sure the nuts were flush with the metal casing seats. I actually found they were a little off.
I made some adjustments and even put a washer under one nut to raise it. This seemed to fix it for me and hasn't skipped a beat since.

You need to look into bending the mobo in the middle using washers or some other method, then you will have to play with adjusting the pressures of the nuts.  What worked for me was 3 washers below the mobo on each of the inner screws.  Then on top of the mobo, 2 washers on each of the inside screws.  Finally, the screws on the outside are tightened down farther than the ones on the inside so that the heatsinks are skewed with the way the board is skewed.

Did you clean off everything on the GPU before putting on AS5? I know the GPU needs to be a smooth flat surface. In my case there was some sort of silver ceramic on the GPu along with the M$ gunk. I scraped off both with a brillo pad.

Also I put 2 washers on the GPU side that sits over the RAM and 3 washers on the GPU side closest to the CPU

Yeah I made sure it was very clean before putting on the AS5 but maybe I put on too much AS5. I'll take off the GPU and re-do it again and try different amounts of washers to get this damn thing right =/

0022 is one of the worse error code next to 0020 that basically mean yr xbox dead not all the time that mens your xbox dead but sometime u have to put a harder about of bending on the to get it to work remmber that board only fibre glas and if you are bending it and thn theral expansion start to happen that means over time you board might just snap
my theory is whn you get the 0022 or 0020 mostly means many of the joint under the gpu are broken and to make all touch back you have to apply larger amount of pressure on the die or bend the board more than normal ( but this might not alwayz be the case of 0022 or 0020 error)

the best solution i can think of get some one to reflow the board and then do the xclamps replacement i have worked with a motherboard that went for 0102 to 0022 to 0020 it never got better
i tired everythink you could possible think of expect reflowing the gpu but i don't now anyone thatcan possible do that in my country so as far as i now i have the dad 360 mobo

i was think putting the dam think in the oven but tht is never good idea lol

Thanks, after finding the manual I found I was using WAY too much compound, but I'm still getting the damn 3 RLOD 0022

If adding a bit more pressure doesn't solve it you'll have to get experimental. You could try the penny fix to prove it doesn't work  tongue.gif

I'm facing the same problem too.  0102 --> X-clamp replacement --> 0022
Have to wait around 30 second to turn 3RLOD when turned on the 360.
But I'm sure that is not the GPU problem, because when I turned on the 360, temperature of GPU heatsink  will raised, but CPU heatsink won't.  I think there is smth wrong with the CPU, can somebody who having the same problem check their CPU heatsink's temperature ??

only wasted 10 minutes trying it as compared to the hours i've put into try to fix this piece of shit so far...
