Adding substantial pressure on the die will still flex the board more than adding some washers. Adding more pressure is not a solution in my opinion all though it does work but I believe it will cause more problems in the future. I believe it is actually one of the safest mods because there is always die-heatsink contact and overpressure is not possible in the normal situation.

When doing that you should place something under the gpu's core for reinforcement. Still I believe there is no need for extra pressure. Mine didn't work at first but I then tightened 2 of the heatsinks screws and it booted right up. Has been working like a charm since then. The standard pressure given by the m6 nuts will do just fine. They are about 4-4,5mm thick.

I have no idea what the height of the exact space is. I just used nuts that would fit over the heatsink's legs when stuck through the board. The tip of the legs should fall a bit into the center of the nut.

That goes for every clamp replacement , doesn't it? Besides, the board normally doesn't have support in the middle so in this case the board is definitely supported. That was the whole point.

ehy how tht fix going DR with yr method can't remmber how are u apply more pressure onto the GPU with a shim or by raising the board or yr using the normal pressure that the gpuheatsink would extert on the die

i am going to do this fix now the one u suggested but i don't really like the idea of putt a extra 1mm washer under the baord to flex the board up so u can appy force on the GPU
i rather use a SHIM b ut i am don;t like shim either 2 much casue well u can casue crack on chips on the die

so i wondering how good using the normal pressure work on the die ??

Hi Guy:

Great topic I have a slightly different mod then yours DrJeckll instead of the metal spacer between the motherboard and the RF case I use a 5/16" spring with at least three coils. I've reflowed over 100 console and used this method of xclamp removal. The oldest one would be about 2 1/2 months old.

This is also a great prevent measure for the 3RLOD.

@DrJeckyll

Hey, I've been trying to follow the method for this thread as it appears to be the best no-drill method so far, but it's a bit hard to understand right now because of all the fragmented replies / abbreviated English. Would you be so kind as to summarize this method and what parts it requires? Thanks =)
