The X-clamp is higher than the top of the heatsink leg. When the motherrboard is screwed down to the chassis, the chassic will force the X-clamp to flex up.If you look the chassic carefully, you will notice some white points near the screw holes. It proves the chassic touch the X-clamp tightly.

Loosing the screws that fix the heatsink is the easy solution.I suggest the ones whose box have no 3ROLD make it.It will make your box live longer.

And where is the extra force directed? Towards the middle causing it to flex there when it heats up.

It's quite a good mod:

When the core tries to flex the board it puts out a force similair to the red arrow in the first picture.
If you add washers, the board will brace itself against the heatsink. This causes the opposite force to be on the heatsink's legs like in the second picture. From a top down view you can see the board pulling the core up by bracing against the heatsink's legs.

In my opinion it still puts too much force on the board because now it's more like the core's on a hammock when the X-clamp is more like putting in it on a bed.  biggrin.gif
