E74 Error After X-clamp Repair
« on: May 14, 2007, 05:06:00 PM »

I have done an x-clamp repair to about 7 360's and all good, but this one. After 2 days, I have gotten an E74 error on screen. I have looked and looked all over fo a solution with no luck. I have changed video cables with no luck, any feedback would be great......thanks

Also the power brick has green light, tried with hdd in and out. I am truly at a loss, I see many posts all over the internet with this problem on both boxes that have been opened and ones that still have sticker  intact, with no solution. If anyone has had any luck remedying this, myself and other would be greatful.

E74 Error After X-clamp Repair

O.k, I had been doing some digging around the box trying to find the root cause for the E74 error. It may be premature, but I did find one of the pins on the av connection broken in half. If you take off the top of the connector on the mobo, you can look at all the pins going down to the bottom of the mobo. I was looking for anything out of ordinary. The reason I started looking  there is because I had noticed some solder that did not look right at the bottom of the mobo, as if that spot got hot and melted some solder. So I popped the top off, and used a small screwdriver to poke at the connections, and I found one of the leads to be broken in half. Just looking at it you could not tell it was broken, but when I touched the screwdriver there, you could tell. So I soldered the 2 halfs back together, and E74 went away, but the 3 rings came back with error 0022, so.....I will be able to post if this for certain fixed the E74 once I get the 0022 gone, hopefully tommorrow.

How are you able to remove the silver housing that surrounds the AV port inside the console. Does it require you to remove both halves of the case that srurrounds the motherboard/ main pc board? I've only removed the top portion that allows you to remove the DVD drive and unplug the fan cable, ect. I'm also getting the E74 error message and would like to fix it since my console is out of warranty (opened) ... if you know someone who has successfully removed this piece that would be great to hear also.

My error message occurs occasionally and is not constant. It happens about 9/10 times the system is turned on & the last time it returned to the E74 screen once already powered on & functioning.

If you look, both sides have a little catch holding it on. Take a very small flat head screwdriver, and just pry with allitle pressure and the top half will come right off, from there you can look at all the connections going to the bottom of the board and look for breaks, also look for bad solder at the board. Oh, you must remove the motherboard from the case.

This error e74 just happened to me too after the final stages of xclamp removal.

I say final stages as I was able to boot and was just adjusting the screws, but I kept getting a checkerboard screen then freeze so I'd tighten another lil bit and see how long till it froze again.

The last time it showed slight artifacts but no freezing after about 10 mins in the dashboard so I figuered that I needed one more round of tightening and it would be game time.

E74 - nothing I do with the screws changes it, please advise!
