Xbox Freezing During Gameplay
« on: May 12, 2007, 06:42:00 AM »

Hey all,

Since a few weeks, my xbox began freezing while playing backups.
Sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after half an hour.

I read here the heat is one of the big problems for the xbox so i did the 12v fan mod and installed an extra xcm fan + heatsinks on the rams. (only the ones at the gpu) ... and it still keeps freezing on me. All powered by the power points under the psu, not tapping power from the dvd drive.

Strange thing is that it doesn't freeze on the dashboard. Had it running for a few hours and it keeps going.
Tested with an original dvd movie, and that played fine...

But once i insert a backup game it plays for a few minutes and then it freezes on me. I had it flashed at normal (fast) read speed. Reflashed it with the latest firmware at slow speed, but that didn't seem to change anything...
Tested it with different brand of DVD+R's too (verbatim, tdk, ...)

Is it the drive, the lens, ... ?

Hope any1 here can help.

No, it's the GPU ram getting to hot. Put some thermal pads on them and replace the thermal grease with Better Thermal Grease if you haven't already.
