Hey everybody,

I got a bit of a problem which I feel I may know the cause and was wanting to know if anyone else had encountered a similar problem.

Firstly my box screwed up (3RLOD) thanks to the brainy lads at Microsoft with their ingenious X-Clamps.

Used RBJtech's tutorial precisely and successfully.  Has been working perfectly from then on except for one issue.  Now I ONLY use Verbatim 2-2.4x DVD+R DL disks (made in Singapore) for my "backups" which have been working perfectly.  However, if I play a backup for a couple of hours and then try to play another backup it won't read the disk.  And if I try to play the first backup again it now won't read that one either.  It seems to me what is happening as a result of replacing the x-clamps and using a much better thermal compound on the chips. its now giving 100% heat transfer to the heatsinks making them get hotter than they did before.  Now as most of you would be aware the GPU heatink is directly underneath the DVD drive (another genious move by Microsoft).  So basically I believe my heatinks are getting hotter now and warming up my DVD drive resulting in my backups playing up.  Also because of the fact that when I turn the 360 off and let it cool down everything works a treat again.

This problem only seems to effect my backups and my original's still work fine.  This process happens every time when I have been playing for a couple of hours and try to change games.

So my question is, is this the problem and can it be easily solved by either using an additional fan for extra cooling or placing something between the DVD drive and GPU heatsink to prevent my DVD drive from getting too hot?

Its not really a huge issue and I can live with it but it also worries me that it may cause an error in future.  I really don't wanna see any more red lights ><

Any advice would be most welcome.

Cheers

Have you tried doing the same thing with originals as the backups? Playing one for a few hours then inserting another and seeing if it works? If you don't get the same problem then I'm pretty sure it could be the drives laser.
