Red Ring Of Death
« on: May 07, 2007, 03:55:00 AM »

Ok this is my second xbox and  this ones now giving me the redring of death

it boots fine but eventually it freezes ingame and i get green stripes tearing down the screen, turn it off and back on and boom red lights

On my last 360 it just booted three red lights non stop. Do you guys think its worth my trying the XClamp mod?

Cheers

yes it's worth it (unless your console is under warranty)

since it doesnt 3rlod on startup then your success rate is almost 100% that it will totally fix your problem.

Sorry to threadjack, im a noob when it comes to 360 consoles, Im thinking of buying a 360 and repairing it. My question is I always thought that if the three red lights occured in game or while playing dvd then it is a heat related problem, so how would replacing the xclamp help

As the console heats up the solder becomes loose and the xclamps cause this. Replacing them will fix this issue.

If the console already has the three red lights and you successfuly use the heatgun method to repair it, and you fit better cooling e.g. replace TIM and rear fans will this guarantee that the problem does not occur again. What temperature must the CPU/GPU/RAM get to for it to melt the solder and are there any other ways to prevent the heat getting to this before/after the three red lights occur or are fixed
