Open Tray Problem On Unmodded 360
« on: May 02, 2007, 05:22:00 PM »

I get the (apparently very common) "Open Tray" when I insert any type of media burned onto Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. It makes a quick grinding noise while it's reading the disc, just before the message. The strange thing is - when I clean the laser with a Memorex cleaning disc - the disc next disc I insert is readable; it doesn't make the quick grinding noise, but only immediately after the cleaning. If I open the tray and close it, the grinding noise occurs and the "Open Tray" appears. I have a TS-394 drive, not sure which "Mxx." My 360 is unmodded - I haven't opened it (yet).

Can somone tell me exactly what is happening and the best way to remedy this? I suspect it's a weak/misaligned laser. Perhaps the "pot trick" or a clening will work? Or the 'rubberband trick"?

Thanks for any help!

The Xbox is out of warranty  - not sure what sticker you mean - the unit is not modded in any way. I probably could send it to MS but that will probably cost me at least $100 won't it?
