Some Xbox360 Elite Consoles have BenQ DVD-Drive
Posted by XanTium | May 1 11:38 EST | News Category: Xbox360

While we've already seen reports of Hitachi-LG (v78 or v79) DVD-drives found in Xbox360 Elite consoles, apparently Microsoft is also using the new BenQ VAD6038 ODD on some of their Elite production lines.
Earagon22 posted a picture of his Xbox360 Elite console with BenQ drive on the xbox.com forums.

Hmmm nice, this drive needs to start appearing more so the firmware hackers can hack it tongue.gif.

Awesome.  I'd much rather have a quiet drive than a firmware hack (for me at least)

agreed, that's time that could be better spent cracking the actual system and getting some actual actual homebrew

Except that from all accounts and reviews of the Elite 360(from Engadget for example), the system is still as loud as it was previously.  There may be a very slight difference in sound during disc reading but its not that big..

I think this will not happen until the dvd firmware mod gets "blocked" by m$... unfortunetly the masses only like to pirate instead of buying games

That picture of the elite sure doesn't look like it is very black in color. It looks more grayish...

I was thinking the same thing. At first I thought maybe it was just a bad picture, but all the other black stuff looks much more black. I guess it could look more gray with a combination of the texture of the finish/the flash, but it seems unlikely.

Yeah but before that report there was a drive comparison where the BenQ was found to be the quitest drive of all. The review you are thinking of is just the premium and elite in general.

Its not surprising to see the Ben-Q Disc Drive on the Elite, considering Microsoft people informed Xbox-Scene about how the same disc drives used on the current Xbox 360 units would be implemented.

This is a growing dilemma and is just going to become much worse.

I sincerely hope that more people will engage in working on the Ben-Q drive and finding a way to flash it.

Considering the fact that the 360 has a short life-span and is just a matter of time before I need another to hack. wink.gif
