Xbox 360 GPU to go to 65nm in fall, says paper

Sources at equipment makers were cited by a Chinese-language Commercial Times report as saying that the Xbox 360 will be equipped with a 65nm-made Xenos graphics processing unit (GPU) in the fall.
The paper cited the sources as saying that an engineering version of the 65nm-made Xenos has been sent out and production will start in May.

TSMC also announced the introduction of 65nm-made embedded DRAM in March. In the 90nm version of the Xenos, embedded DRAM is manufactured by NEC.

I'm confused, is the CPU still going to be made 65nm or was it the GPU they were planning on making better all along?

I'm going to take this with a pinch of salt. It'd be nice to see 65nm in the 360 but its not 100% necessary, I doubt we're going to see 65nm for a while and even if we do, its no reason to throw rocks at your current system.

Good. Now if we get confirmation that the CPU is going 65nm as well, I guess I will be getting a 360 next fall/winter, because hopefully they won't be so problem-ridden then.

My god. Be a sensible buyer. If you think 65nm will make your 90nm 'obselete', why didn't you wait? You bought an Elite as soon as it came out. Talk of the 65nm has been around for ages so there is no doubt that you knew it was coming before you bought your Elite. It sounds like you bought it just so you could moan along with the others who cry when their 360 breaks; but also cry when Microsoft actually try to improve the console for your benefit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

Also I fail to see how the release of a 65nm GPU, possibly CPU of the same specs as the previous model makes it obselete as it will do exactly the same as any other console; but it may run slightly cooler. Obselete would be if they released the Xbox 3 or a significant hardware change (like a faster CPU) that means you can't play any new Xbox 360 games that are released because they have all been made for this new CPU. That is obselete (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I see this only as good news for the Xbox 360 range (I can call it that now with 3 different grades of system right? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)) Imagine if this solved the mobo warping thing...

Runs a bit cooler, a bit more energy efficient and might fix the warping problem.

I didn't wait because I got tired of my launch unit (out of warranty) locking up mid-game. It's true that Elite will be obsolete because heat affects performance. Ask anyone who's ever overclocked a PC...errors galor.
