Best Cooling Technique(s)
« on: April 28, 2007, 04:09:00 PM »

I've read many of the tuts here in the forum but, I was wondering is there a "hands down" method for overheating.  I've performed the tricks and all considering the fact that the GPU is the 360's nightmare overall.  I pretty much cooled the CPU with a 12V and it's doing wonderful.  I have trimmed out an area of the GPU's heat sink to place a fan inside.  The unit worked fine for 3hrs and then overheated with the 2rlod.  I know it's something dealing with cooling that GPU for it gets entirely too hot with thermal paste(Artic Alumina) and a fan.  If there's a real remedy for this, I'd be very happy to kow of it right of way.

KEEP IT COOL AND STAY COOL

Try a Nyko Intercooler, if that doesn't work 12v it.

You may hear bad stuff about it, but I had one for months and it has been doing me good.

So you took an already inadequate heatsink and hacked some off it up to make room for a fan? as well as wonder why it's overheating? Brilliant.

Get another GPU sink that isn't all forked up and use it, do the fan shroud mod and run the stocker fans at 7v or 12v. The Talismoon fans are also a nice upgrade as well and move a little more air than the stockers do. There's not much you can do about the heat the GPU generates unless you get wild with the air cooling and a lot bigger sink or water cool it, but the fan shroud mod and faster or better fans do make a difference.
