Tailsmoon Fan Speed?
« on: April 24, 2007, 08:23:00 PM »

Wondering why a tailsmoon fan plugged into the stock fan header would be running at full blast most of the time?
Main concern was that it is running at full speed because there is a problem. Only other mod to the console is a 60mm fan running off the 12v source under the motherboard.

If the fans are running at full speed there is an issue somewhere. Make sure that ya have the heatsink screws tightened first. If they are tight, pulling it all back apart and putting new thermal compound may straighten it back up and worst case having to do the X-clamp replacement because a so-so solder joint on the CPU/GPU can cause the issue also.

You mean the small black screws? I'll open it up again and take a look.

Oh and just to be clear....in my first post I meant that I added a 60mm to the top right hand side of the case using the 12v power source located under the MB.

The only thing I could think of was that it was hot in my buddies room last night so maybe thats why they were running at full speed. Could the room temp have an effect on things? I know that with a pc if your room is hot it will effect case temps and so on...but wasnt sure if the 360 would act the same way causing the thermostat to kick it up to full power because of room temps

Thanks for the reply

Yes the 8 small black screws, and yes the 360 controls the fans thermally, so if it was hotter than usual that could have sped them up as well.
