Its a quick fix, best fix is removing the x clamps.

Replacing the X-clamps (with a different setup) Removing implies just removing, that will get yer 360 is deeper than it already is. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I've been successful with this "X-Clamp Removal" mod fix on one 360.  I did another and found that the 8 small black screws that screw into the x-clamps through the metal shielding case were indeed causing the mobo to warp.  We all know that the screws are placed into the mobo by machinery.  This means that if you remove them from their present torque.  It is not possible to replace them with the exact torque placed on them from the machinery, which causes too much heat in certain places of the tightened screw area manually.  If a section is tighter than the other then there you go.  The second time I conducted this trick did not need the x-clamps replaced at all! I just removed the 8 small black screws and reassembled the unit with no more overheating 3rlod!

Is it safe just to leave the black screws out? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) thought they were needed.
Do you then think that this way of overheating is better than the towel method because it is more focused and generates more heat quickly on gpu/cpu rather than leaving the whole 360 to cook for 20 mins?.
I got my 360 working by the towel method recently and having seen other posts on here am thinking of doing the x clamp screw replacement, but should i overheat for 2 mins again?
Cheers
Al

had a good laugh when I saw that one. kinda reminded me of Calvin and Hobbes the way he
" taadaaa, fixed" it.    if it dies again, just hit it harder.

I saw another one on youtube where these morons were pouring hot water into an xbox.

Hey luminous, if you decide to do the clamp replacement.  Those black screws must come out and stay out anyway for you will not be able to put them back in their original spot.  The new machine screws mentioned will take up the spots where the black screws were.  After you reassemble the metal case to the MOBO, you will see the screws through the small holes where the black srews used to be.  I can even tighten the screws through the holes with the correct screw driver.  If I were you I'd go with the X-Clamp replacement.
