That is a good point.   Maybe they are just collecting console MAC addresses to Ban them from Live as well.

The better question is how do you have the new Rayman and it's not even out till the 24th?  biggrin.gif
(btw this is meant in humor and not accusing you of anything)

They have http://www.360resin.com/

The reason its not as widespread in use as you'd think is because it really isn't as great a fix as its made out to be. Without fixing the warping, they won't stop the rot.

I'm hoping that by the end of the year we'll see 360's with:

-65nm
-HDMI
-quiet drive like benq
-$400 price point

I think I'll wait 'till then to get one.  I don't really care about firmware flashing.

if anyone reads my last post on the x-clamp thread they will see why i think this is a horrible idea.. and why warping isnt neccessarily the problem either

All the bells & whistles don't mean jack if it still sports the stupid "X" clamps......

Even if they did put a little epoxy on the chips blink.gif

Sounds like you can.  Well, at least for now until the next Dash update.  The fact MS is still using the same drive makes me think they have a software solution they are getting ready to unleash before some of their big power house games come out in May/June.

Or maybe it's because they still have piles of them left over.

I can't believe M$ have opted for glue to hold the chips down. They're a multi billion dollar corporation yet can't seem to find the money to design a new mounting system for two heatsinks huh.gif . It reminds me of a dodgy first time noob mod.
You watch, in about 4 years the only 360's left working will be the ones that have been truly fixed (clamps replaced) by members of X-S.

Nice, I'm so glad I've waited on the 360, now I need confirmation that it has 65NM CPU's. Someone please get Ubuntu on it and run a CPUID program, what Kernel does this ship with?

oh dear - I was hoping for a new clamping design ... glue the chip to the board - hmmm yea way to go MS.  If the thermal expansion is enough to break a chemically bonded solder joint (well 100's of them actually) - what's the hope that it going to stop with 8 glue bonds ?

On the other hand - if they changed the clamping method - that would publically ADMIT that the X clamps are crap ... so hmmm, not surprised either ...

My thoughts exactly. If they did replace them it would cause alot of people with currently working consoles to question how much longer it will be before failiure, and would probably result in many people calling M$ for a free x-clamp replacement. Also replacing them would mean they are accepting full liability for the consoles failings and will no longer be able to blame people for not keeping it ventilated enough etc... This would result in people who paid through the nose to get their machine fixed calling up and demanding a refund. Basically the epoxy is a cheap low profile "fix" that won't cause uproar.

IMO

I'll stick my neck out and say they are the new chips - why ?  Look at the power regulators on the right of the motherboard - there is now only HALF the number there used to be ... meaning lower power requirements ... smile.gif

They have also managed to finally arrange the large capacitors at the top of the CPU (in the airflow guide) so they don't restrict airflow like they used to - well somebody is putting some thought into things .... 'bout time ... smile.gif

Why is everyone dying for these new chips? I know that cooling in the 360 is certainly crap but as far as i know, the CPU overheating isn't an issue. Besides, a nice blob af arctic silver 5 and a couple more simple cooling mods make the 360 run nice and chilled.

Unless i'm missing something? are they implementing the new technology to the GPU also? That baby gets very hot.
