At first I started getting color distortion, and eventually no video output. Would give me all green, and I got a video signal after I closed up the ventilation to over heat it, but that only worked a couple days before the discoloration and no video came back. Power button was all green though.

Took it apart and put new thermal AS5 compound on th GPU and bent the X-clamp for added pressure. That worked for around an hour while still dissembled. After that it went to 3ROD error 0102.

After that I took both heatsinks off and used Lawdawg0931's method with some minor differences.

Fixed the 3RLOD. No issues at all now, no freezing, works fine.

Ran the start screen from Crackdown for an hour. Played for another hour. Reassembled the console, put the hard drive back on and played the first level of Halo3. After that I played through the first level from RV2. Not a single issue.

Going to pick up GTAIV today and put it to the test with a long gaming session.

5. Fixed the RROD, but I now get two red lights 2 seconds in on startup.

Lawdawg's Mathod

I push power and the xbox logo comes up, then the fans start going really crazy fast them in stops and gives me the two red lights.  Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?  Should I try the towel now, because when I did the step to overheat the nit to resolder the joints it only took 5 seconds for the red lights to come on. Any ideas?

Thanks

1. Fixed the 3RLOD. No issues at all now, no freezing, works fine.

So far.  using Lawdawg's Mathod.

In the last post I had done the method but that just gave me the two red lights.  So I was contemplating using the towel method but I decided not to.  Instead I decided to redo it again but this time not use the metal washer.  This seemed to do the trick.  It all works now and I have had no problems so far.  If anyone else ever has this problem with the two lights this is the way to fix it.

Thanks Everyone for all the help in this forum.

ok so i tried RBJ's method and it didnt work for me

i was never all that confident that the washers i had used for the motherboard standoff spacing where the right hieght, it looked ok but still. it still rod'd so as in the tutorial i thought go back and try again from scratch. Upon stripping the box down i discovered the washers on the topside of the board for the gpu gave too big a space even though i measured them on the board by eye with a magnifying glass and they looked ok.

So now i am going to try lawdawg's method because as i have stated im not confident about the standoff spacing's my washers are giving and his method doesnt rely on this factor. wish me luck

i'll add my results later when i have done it again

How long does this fix work?  Do you have to replace this every few months,  years,  etc?

Fixed two 360 systems. One with video problems (didn't need a heat gun, just the clamp replacement) and another with constant freezing.

Both are working great! Good work to all and keep it up.

used lawdawg's

didn't need to overheat like it says for the last step.  also cut out the metal mesh behind the fans and added extra cooling.

been good for a few weeks now playing Halo 3 etc...

My 360 would run for a few minutes if that then freeze! I was getting so frustrated. I work in a computer store repairing Laptops the majority of the time so I didn't figure this would be that bad. Truth be told it was not bad at all and THIS REALLY WORKS!!!

Thanks a ton!
