Did not fix the 3RLOD.

Error code 0020.

Some clever dick at MS tightened a screw so much that the GPU heatsink was actually touching the motherboard. Left a nice red burn and big crack on the PCB.

Didn't stand a chance....

Did the X-clamp replacement for a friend who had no video and no audio but was not getting the 3 red lights. Working fine but have only done 20 minutes of testing so far.

Thanks to lawdawg0931 and all others who contributed to this fix.

Had code 0021...before it came to me it would boot, then freeze on intro video, eventually not booting at all giving RROD.

Tried the MKIII method and ARS5...still wouldn't boot.  Used the heat gun method and viola...works great...so far.  Will report back if status has changed.

UPDATE: A week later...developed RROD again, this time error code 0102.  Used the heat gun again to revive... but for how long?  We'll see...I noticed if I tightened the heat sink too much, it would give me RROD...so backed off on screws.

Gotta hand it to you guys nice work....

I went with LAWDAWG0931 guide screwed in from below the motherboard instead of outside the case with 1 washer on each screw underneath the motherboard and for me it took 2 washers instead of 3 inbetween the CPU and GPU heat sinks and bolted them down with nuts with the occasional one washer from above the heatsinks to give the nuts something to grip on when tightened. Also used Artic 5 thermal compound didnt even have to heat it up just came alive :/. Guess only time will tell how long its last for but i will keep you posted on that.

Minor issue with the dvd drive being hitachi im waiting for the guy to get back to me to say its the original drive incase its a key issue but hopefully its just a laser issue i can just replace. I play dvd films for hours and some game demos from the harddisk also some HD Hexin just cant run games from the drive atm how frustrating.

Some tips if fans run really fast your over heating with 3rlod this means the heatsinks are making hardly any contact decrease the amount of washers inbetween the heatsinks on CPU and GPU dont go any lower than 2 washers otherwise the board will bend or even worse damage the die. Also dont over tighten the nuts either as long as the heatsinks are tight on there and also make sure you have applied enough thermal paste. And dont forget to apply the thermal pads like the guide shows underneath the board on the four chips.

I shall cease to rabbit on but all credit to them guys on the guides :/

1. fixed

I use the lamma version.

starts up with 3 rings. then I power off after about 30 seconds and it works fine. Sounds like I just need to adjust screws.

I got the 3rl today, error code 0020. I tried the usual stuff, but to no avail. Spend the last couple hours doing "MkIII" x-clamp replacement method, and it actually WORKED!!! As soon as I put it back together, it booted right up like a charm!! I am amazed, thanks so much to the authors of these methods!!!! I have been playing for a half hour or so, and no freezing what-so-ever!!!

ok so i said some of this already in the error codes thread but i tried lawdawgs x-clamp fix and AS5 paste, however after overheating and letting cool for 30mins i still have the 3 lights. Error code 0020. So it didnt work! I got whisper led custom fans in there so it should be cooler and an open window case.

I tried tightening and loosening screws on the gpu and cpu, but to no success.
Tommorow I will try only using nylon washer on gpu instead of nylon, than metal washer under gpu above mobo. Also might try penny mod fix. But am doubtful that I'm going to get this box to work.

Suggestions anyone for lawdawg method combination of washers? I did what he outlined but maybe less or more would help fix my problem? Maybe?

Hi, the only reason this fix will  not work is because it hasnt been done word for word., the heatsinks are proberbly NOT touching the dye properly. Also try llama guide (ggle it). Sorry to say but your 360 is NOT dead unless phsyically damaged?, you need to do it word for word, make sure there is no bend in the board etc (some people it works with 3 washers some with 2 etc). I used lawadogs and used screw/washer under the board and 2 washers on the top side of the board - works just like new)

Also find out what your secondary error code is and work on THAT area, THAT is what the problem is!!. You shouldnt be messing with cpu AND gpu becuase as you fix 1 adgustment you could be messing up the other adjustment. Tighten the screws until they are hand tight and try again - DONT OVER TIGHTEN - Good luck)

thanks for the input, i am definitely trying multiple things today and i suppose as a last resort i will try a differant x-clamp method that includes drilling and new parts i would need to get.

question u say focus on the secondary error code how do you find that? I noticed I used to get 0022 before lawdawg fix and now i get 0020, is this secondary? Im thinking it means GPU or CPU connection/overheating/fried issue.
