With the recent discovery of replacing the X-clamps on the motherboard being a good fix for 3RLOD, RBJtech suggested that we keep track of results. Thanks go to him for all of his help, ideas, and suggestions.

I have successfully repaired 4 3RLOD's with these parts. Do NOT use the 'hex' head screws as a alternative, they are too large and cause your motherboard to bend when you screw it all back togeather.

Note: The 'DR#' is the 'drawer number' and may not be the same at every home depot. I've visited 3 now with the same drawer numbers, but the upc and description is the best way to find it.

Please read the following carefully:

Do not add results from the jewel-case method, we don't want them!

If, and only if, you have done one of the above methods, then reply in this thread. Please post one of the following options, nothing more, nothing less. For discussion of the tutorial, methods, etc., please use the above links to the appropriate tutorial thread.

1. Fixed the 3RLOD. No issues at all now, no freezing, works fine.
2. Fixed the 3RLOD. Video still freezes occasionally.
3. Mixed results. Sometimes works with no 3RLOD.
4. Did not fix the 3RLOD.

If you could please post what secondary error code your console exhibits too, that'd be great.

(I will update and merge posts into here as needed, other moderators feel free to help out.)

Current results:

1. Fixed the 3RLOD. No issues at all now, no freezing, works fine: 925 consoles.
2. Fixed the 3RLOD. Video still freezes occasionally: 23 consoles.
3. Mixed results. Sometimes works with no 3RLOD: 8 consoles.
4. Did not fix the 3RLOD: 86 consoles.

Hi, I wonder should we update the result with duration? I mean add more statistic like it been working for 7 days , 30 days, 1 month, 2 months ? And also, Statistic saying it stops working after 7 days, 30 days etc etc.

I think this will be a great research on how the x-clamp works.

I heard a lot of people says the method only works for days to month only.

I think the result we are getting now is for those who have their 360 fixed at day 1.


That way, we can know the x-clamp works and might able to improve it.

Hello Peoples,I'm just wondering will this fix also work for the strange oilpaint looking graphics as well,reason I'm asking is I dont have the rrod but my video goes after a few min. and after i shut down then start up I have no  pic. but if I get the sucker HOT! then let it cool down my video comes back again.

I was getting the two & three flashing lights problem, but two sets of washers under the GPU heatsink resolved that isssue.  Nice blob of thermal paste too.

Going to do the CPU heatsink next.  Used Lawdawg's method.

Thank you so much. I bought my XBOX 360 off of eBay refurbished and eventually got the red ring of death. So I tried sending it to Microsoft, but got it back two weeks later un-repaired. So I went searching the internet for the cheapest places to get it fix until I came upon this method. I didn't want to spend $100+ so I followed the directions perfectly, and walah, I have a working XBOX 360 again. Thank you soooooooooo much for the tutorial.

I just did the X Clamp fix and now i have three green lights, then i am getting the two red lights. How is it still overheating??? How long does it take to cool down?? Its been almost an hour after.  I am very excited to see three green lights, but hmm....i have the fans up and all. Should i enclose it? Wouldnt the heat be worse for testing im confused. haha. HELP....

Ill just keep pouring water on it....maybe ice....oh well.

Got lawdawgs method to work.  Though it has a tendency to overheat after a few minutes.  I didn't use arctic silver 5 so I'm probably going to redo it with it.
