Using Lawdawg's How-To fix of the 3RLOD, fixed the issue.  No freezing and no issues.

I do want to note that I originally I did get the screws snug in the bottom and overheated the 360 w/o the fans for 2 minutes as stated in the guide.  When it didn't work (3RLOD was still popping up), I waited for cool down, then tightened the nuts more but not intense power.  Did the overheating trick for 3 minutes this time, and that did the trick.

Thank you very much!!

This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.

(x-clamp replacement, lawdawg's method, works perfectly now. wink.gif)

No RLOD here, but I was getting weird green and yellow colors and then no video, but had audio so I knew it was the GPU. Performed the x-clamp replacement and it has been running flawlessly for 2 weeks no with no issues at all.

Do not be afraid to torque the bolts. I torqued mine on the verge of stripping the heat sinks with a 1/4 ratchet.  ohmy.gif

Just thought I'd give an update on my console...

Just passed the 2 week mark and there seems to be no problem even after a 24hr session playing Mass Effect. I applied the RJB method of cooling by isolating each fan and was a little worried that it might catch on fire  blink.gif but after that session my mind is at ease.

Once again THANK YOU!

I fixed mine back in May with Lawdawg's method. I have to keep adjusting it though. One of my mistakes was buying rubber washers (don't do this) because they change size. When I first did the mod it lasted months. Since then I have to fix it every week or so. Be careful not to tighten too much because over time it will flex more and more until it freezes again. I'm going to try RBJtech's method now to see if it works better. I wish Microsoft didn't create such a defective console because it's fun to play.

You can now add me to the list:

Fixed the 3RLOD. No issues at all now, no freezing, works fine.

I was getting error code 0102, used lawdawgs method.

I will be replacing my stock fans and adding a front fan on the case in about a week. Shouldn't have any more overheating issues after that.

Thanks guys.

I need to be removed as a success. I did the fix in early March and it worked fine until about 2 weeks ago. Now it has the same problem as before, only now it works for about 2 minutes before it freezes. I tried opening the system and making it overheat once again and tightening the screws, and that's how I got to where I am now (instead of just 3 lights instantly when you turn it on). It would appear that this fix is only a temporary one. Still... I think I got my money's worth, and now I have a brand new Elite.

Lycan its most likely a short somewhere. You know those little legs sticking up on the outsides of the mother board? Check and make sure all of those are touching on the inside of the case and none are outside.

i was trying to heat it up without putting it into the metal tray. but i think yes when i did try it in the case there was a leg sticking out of the wireless adaptor port. but when u say legs do u mean the bits holding in the different parts like on the all the big parts that originally held it in place. and if it was one of them, have i caused any majar damage by this or by trying to heat it up when not in the metal holder. i cant try it yet because i was fixing it over my mates as he has all the write equipment but he is in work al day now. i have also read on another thread that it coud be a broken trace. but they seem easy enough to fix with some practice. any more advice would still be appreciated.

success  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)
my console started to freeze after 6 months of purchase untill it died completely with error code 0102, I really dont know what to call my method  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)  cuz i was supposed to apply MKIII method but i couldn't find appropriate parts so i just bolted the heatsinks to the mobo instead of metal case (don't know the consequences but i had no choice) , added front fan and did the shroud modification...
I played COD4 for half an hour without problems  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  (before i was able to play for 2 minutes and then 3RLOD)

I used the Lawdawg0931's Tutorial & it didn't work at first. When I firdt turned to console on it went to the 2 blinking read lights. I re-read this tutorial and loosen the nuts on top of the heatsink and it worked perfectly.
I also didn't drill the case either. I put 3 washers under the board because the bolt had as a slight curve in it. I put 2 washers directly on the top of the board then sat the heatsink on top then I put the nylon nuts on top. When I installed it back into the case I only put in the screws to hold the top and the dvd player in place. This was done to keep from bending the board.

So success thus far and it's now been 30+ days
