Just fixed my 360 with the xclamp replacement + new termal paste arctic silver 5.
I used to have error code 0020.
Workes like a sharm!
Hope it's a permanent fix.


Hey hbombgosu.

Your problem with two red lights blinking means your console is over heated.
Did you put on new termal paste? Artic silver 5 is recomended

Just did another xbox with the x-clamp fix and....

works fine,

overheating wasnt even necesarry, the x-clamps where so loose i could pull them of without any effort,

Did the fix but only lasted 2 weeks, did again lasted 3 hours, again lasted 1hour.....
I would like to try and add a shim but cannot find a supplier, and advice?

Fixed using Lawdogs method, no issues so far (been testing for 3 hours)

Just fixed two xbox's with lawdogs method.  one with 0020 that I couldn't get to work at all and now it runs perfectly.  The other with error code 0102, before the fix it would run for 2 min then freeze and get 3RLOD now its been working great for 2 hours

THIS WORKS BECAUSE IT IS SCREWED CLOSER TO THE CPU AND GPU. ASLONG AS YOU HAVE DECENT SILVER THERMAL COMPOUND APPLIED PROPERLY.

I FIXED MY OWN XBOX AND ITS SAVED ME A FEW QUID.

had a 3rlod, cried. searched for this tut.

went through this procedure.

Didn't work at first. had to add an extra fan by splitting the power to the origional fan.

Cut out the "X" shape on the bottom of the steel case and aimed the new fan there. Dun think i'll have any problems now.

-neXXtech Silicone-Base Heat Sink Compound -Source  part#2761372- couldn't find any arctic/AS5 locally anywhere.

-Goo Gone(to remove the old thermal paste)
-Qtips/paper towel(to remove the old thermal paste)


used 3 washers(W), and 1 nylon(N) between the case© and under the motherboard(M), and 1 Nylon and 1 washer above the motherboard and below the heatsink(H). Height of washers between the motherboard and the Heatsink was a 1.78mm

Fixed the 3RLOD. No issues at all now, no freezing, works fine.

Had error code 0020. Used RBJTech's MkIII instructions with parts from Lowe's including a shim for the GPU heatsink. Cleaned off existing heatsink paste and applied artic silver 5. At first it booted fine to dash but when I tried to load a game I got two red lights. I loosened each GPU heatsink screw one quarter of a turn and it has been working fine for the past 6 hours.
