Tutorial For "x" Clamp Replacement

Well, a bit of bad news on my end. I'm not getting the 3RLOD, but I am getting video freeze-ups. I think I'm going to redo my mod to match up to RBJTech's tutorial: http://rbjtech.bulld..._com/XClamp.htm

See if that helps out my video freezing.

I couldn't find the matching parts here in Australia.  I applied new thermal paste and put the x clamp back on and it worked. Hopefully it will last, else I have to go hunting for parts again to get rid of those clamps. Thanks for the tutorial, couldn't have done it without it.

Ok, I bought a broken xbox 360 off of ebay. My question is if you are going to fasten the mother board to the case do you need longer screws then M5 or will those still work?

If you follow RBJTech's tutorial, the M5 bolts will be too short. I think this would be a better way to go (a little harder to perform), but definitely more secure. I also bought a system off E-bay & will perform RBJTech's way on this new box. I'll put together a list of necessary parts (with part #'s for U.S.) & repost tomorrow.

Ok, i bought all the parts/paste and stuff, about to clean off the old paste. I have two questions. How much arctic 5 do you put on the chips/how(i realize you use the syringe but how do you spread it over the chips). and do you wait 2 minutes from turning it on or 2 minutes from when the lights switch to 2 red lights instead of 3?

You should but about the size of a grain of rice, acually a little smaller. You can spead it with a credit card, gift card, playing card. After you apply the artic silver 5 i would let it set for a few hours.

The size of a grain of salt is correct, but I don't spread it with anything. I let the pressure of the heatsink spread it naturally. Also, two minutes after the lights indicate an overheat (when it goes to two lights)...but only overheat the box if the 3RLOD are still there after removing the "X" clamps. Check that first, no need to overheat it if the removal of clamps worked on its own.

I performed this surgery on my friend's 360 and it worked for the first time in weeks! I'll report back if it goes to crap again but so far, so good!  love.gif

Ok. done. Plugged it in without fans and got a green light. So i turned it back off. Only thing is, i think the heads ont he screws i bought are too big and cause the mobo to not go all the way down without bending, which would negate what i just did, so i have to go find some with more.. flatness tomorrow. Thanks guys.

So, while i've got it open, how would i go about lighting up the vents?(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

wire up some LED's to point across/out of the vents. if you do some searching, you will be able to find many tut's on how to install leds
