Really?

Clearly you have no idea what you're on about.

It's already been stated in here, more than once, the steps that should be gone thru to determine the actual problem. If you're not going to contribute to that and just butt heads on every idea and offer none of your own, based on fact or what you personally have tried and works, then don't post, simple as that.

have a sook next time mate....if you have nothing nice to say, dont say anything

on topic: i think your best bet would be to replace teh drive. might be a bit more expensive, but will solve your problems

360 laser= 13-25 dollars=problem solved
360 drive = 125 dollars plus firmware flashing= problems solved and a sore bum from a good fisting

i have a 360 with a hitach drive when i got it it had been thrown agains a wall and the only damage was to the dvd drive (the grey plastic runner smashed) after a laser adjust it did exactly what yours is doing so i thought it was the laser at fault so i bought a new one, i installed the laser and it still wouldnt play games so i  adjusted the motor height all the way up (by tightening the 3 screws) and started to adjust each screw a quarter turn at a time and try the 360 again, after about 5 mins of gradual adjustment the drive burst into life (i was happy to say the least as it was a freebie!!!) and its been perfect ever since (had it 2 months now) biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

Hey man, that IS a great feeling. Congrats!

Do you think the motor adjustment can be done on a Samsung TS-H943 ms25?
I have the same problem (plays DVD movies perfectly, takes 10+ tries to read a game). I cleaned, pot tweaked, bought a new laser, pot tweaked some more, no go. I was about to use this drive to do a firmware hack practice run before buying a new drive, but I'd love to just adjust the motor and be done.

Ahhh, I see it now! The silver rails that the laser slides on terminate in round black plastic pieces (furthest from the center of the disc). I didn't look at them closely when I changed the laser, but now I see that the ends of the rails sit on an incline. Twisting the black thingy raises or lowers the rails, and thus the height of the laser with respect to the disc. ONE OF THEM IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE OTHER. Also, there are some tiny arrows on the black thingys that point to the metal mounting plate. There are two ink marks on the metal. One arrow is pointing right at the ink mark. The other one is about 90 degrees off. Could this have been the problem all along?

Thank you Jaydr! This has been such a roller coaster ride that I'm afraid to get my hopes up again, dang, too late.  biggrin.gif

I didn't have time at lunch, but tonight when I get home I am going to try adjusting these. (Fingers crossed)

FIXED!!!  smile.gif

I didn't need a new drive after all. The laser was mis-aligned. Adjusting the height of the rails on my Samsung drive solved the problem of reading dvd movies but requiring 10 or more tries to read a game.

This is a non-modded xbox that was given to me by a friend after he returned it for repair 3 times. When I got it it had the Open Tray error which I fixed by installing a new laser. Thats probably when the rails got screwed up.  wink.gif

For you techies on the forum, I notice the rail adjusters are accessible from the top of the tray when a disc is spinning (if you run it without the top cover). That makes me think of connecting a meter or o-scope and spinning up some kind of factory calibration disc. Then adjust the laser until the instrument reads the optimum value. Does anyone know how to do this?

I hope this helps other people with the same problem.

I have exactly the same problem as you.. but with me the guilty is my modified firmware..
I "lost" the drive secure key that's exacly the same as the dashboard have, and unique, and now i have this problem, because i think its impossible to recover it by the dashboard and put in the drive again.
There's any kind of solution? If i buy a new drive i will have the same problem because the secure key will not match with the dashboard again..so what can i do?
Sorry my english but i am Portuguese.
Thanks

Well I have the exact same problem and wish to join as a part of the solution (hopefully not part of the problem). Let me say my xbox 360 was dropped by UPS (AXXHOLES) X=S by the way, and low and behold my virgin xbox 360 will read dvds but EXTREMELY SENSITIVE to xbox 360 burned games, if they even played(Yes, I eventually popped its cherry w/ xtreme 5.2, but had the same problem before so I know it's not the mod). Decided to see what was going on, and when taking apart the ms25 drive I noticed the drive was a bit dirty. Cleaned the laser with rubbing alcohol (it's all I had) and would work with games the first 2-3 times and then suddenly stop working. Here goes my test and will post results:

1) Clean with better lens cleaner (With microscope lens cleaner, oooohhh, aaaaahhhh)
2) Adjust the height of the rails.
3) Do pot tweak

Hey, wish me luck guys, will keep posting results

forgot to add i did adjust the pot a little bit lower than standard after height adjustment (seemed to track better for me) didnt have a multimeter so i had to do it by guess so i cant tell you resistance figures
