Hi, for anyone that has completely dismantled and reassembled an xbox 360 dvd drive and wonders why it doesnt read discs anymore...read on....

The problem arises if you unknowingly unscrew the screws that mount the disc spindle motor. These screws are actually the laser height adjustment, they cleverly devised this method to make design of the drive easier. Quite clever I thought!

anyhooo... to get your drive focused again, simply do the following in the diagram I have provided below.

hope this serves you all well, it did for me!

Those screws actually adjust the tilt/height of the spindle motor, the other way is to sit a disc on top and ajust those screws so that the disc is level in the tray. I got a 'dead dvd' 360 going last week by adjusting those.

mnnn... yes i realise that what it actually does ... it adjusts the disc height from/to the laser, there isnt an actual a screw you can turn to raise or lower the laser itself. I thought i was making easy for the "average joe" understand...apparently not....?

A tiny allen key/hex key works just fine

A T6 will work, but is a little bit small, an Allen/Hex wrench/key of around 1.5mm or so will fit.

Just for Hitachi, the Samsung adjustment screws are on top, back of the rails the laser assembly slides on.
