Moore: Motion Control on 360?

Speaking to Game Informer, Don Mattrick and Peter Moore discuss the future of the Xbox 360.
According to Moore, Microsoft began to see the significance of the casual market when the Wii was still known as Revolution. Moore states that Microsoft's strategy is more than simply throwing more E rated games onto the 360, saying "it's more experiential than that." This quickly leads to the speculation that Microsoft may have a motion controller of its own in mind. At this point it remains pure speculation. After all, Mr. Moore could easily be talking about more games involving the Vision Camera.

Intermaresting. As long as its something good, unlike the PS3 controller. I have never used one, but from what I know, its shit. I havn't heard a single good thing about it, and at the moment, its not even used from my knowledge (the 'six axis' crap).

I'd be interested to see MS make a 3mote (360 wiimote), though it'd obviously be seen as a completely ripoff. I honestly cant think of a way they'd be able to do it, but im sure they have their ideas, if thats even what they're talking about.

Also, w00t, first post

Please don't let it be motion sensing controls! It'd be a really bad "us too!" move by MS if they did that.

I remembered Bill saying this.

"There's room for innovation here, but moving that controller around -- it's something that's not mainstream for most games," he said. He recalled a Microsoft-made controller from several years ago that allowed 3-D movement. "It's tough because sometimes you move the controller, and you don't [mean] to fly into the ground. You just want to put the controller down," he said. "People aren't that good at totally standing still. Even pilots actually sit in a chair when they do their flying. So there's a lot to be learned about these controllers."

It's probably just something to do with the Vision camera. Big deal.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

http://www.us.playstation.com/flOw/ Supposedly by a few reports (1 being from penny-arcade.com) this is supposed to be a very cool game that fully utilizes the controller. I do remember at E3 Microsoft laughed off the whole motion controller thing pretty much claiming it to be a fad. Now they are arriving late on the train and who knows what might happen.

i somewhat agree with flashfreak...but for microsoft to make its own motion controller, it would be seen as a rip off of the wii, but at the same time it could be pretty fun, albeit some decent games come out to utilize it.

fyi, there is already a 360 tilt controller.  thanks to adam thole, i already have constructed mine, and it works extremely well (no lag what-so-ever).  mine is wired to either use the joystick or the tilt sensitive board, and for games like burnout revenge, feeding frenzy, and so on, it's quite a bit of fun.

Microsoft released the Sidewinder Freestyle Pro back in 1998, nearly 10 years ago now. Everyone laughed it off as being a fad, I guess everyone else is arriving late on the train and look what happens.

Uh I remember that whole bs about who was first with the motion sensor controller but I think it went all the way back to the NES that first had such a device. Remember though just cause they did it first dosn't mean they still follow the product. Cartages were first but i have yet to see a non portable device use them in 5 years.

I'm thrilled if there's any one thing that has persuaded me to buy a 360 over a PS3, it's this moment.

Hopefully, it will be as good as it was with the Xbox- we could install a nice BIOS that goes silent online.

I remember years about I bought a logitech gamepad, for an extra $5 there was a motion sensing one, but i didnt buy it. I just remember though that that kinda thing was around at least 5 years ago.

I was just thinking, y hasn't some kind of portable system (eg, psp, ds) tried this? It'd be good for something like that, unless the screen had a bad viewing angle. U'd be leaning it foward to move ur character foward, and the screen would go dark or something (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Maybe the next Nintendo Handheld?

I can see potential for some level of motion sensing to be used as a way to simplify certain movements.  Perhaps those that might be most natural with such movement.  In a FPS and even third person view games, you might use quick jerks of the controller in a given direction to cause the character to dive or roll in that direction.  Some players already inadvertently jerk the controller in a panic anyways so why not make it into useful functionality within the game?
