Well DUH!  If compatibility is important then don't go buying apple products. Incompatibility is apple's game. It keeps customers buying apple made or apple related products.

1. A $100 USB WiFi adapter should connect to your f**king refrigerator if you want it to.

2. Anyone duped into buying a $100 USB wifi adapter from MS is asking for it, imo.

1)you don't have to buy a $100 USB wifi adapter from MS, you can use a cheap d-link or some other alternative... almost any setup other than an apple wifi will work. what have you been reading? or better yet smoking, it seems to have given you double vision... let me have some.
2) ms offers you their perripheral, so that you can have something that is hassel free, and COMPATIBLE without hassle, it's your inexperience (which shows greatly by the way) or lack of knowledeg (see afformentioned parenthesis) that makes it nessecary in the first place.

Nice wink.gif

I'd say that most consumers are exactly that, consumers, and so if they want their Xbox 360 wireless they won't research on what you could use for less money, they will go out and buy the readily available M$ adaptor.

So for those "consumer" people who want to use this router as a wireless hub for their Xbox 360 are affected by it.  Granted it is probably a very small portion of people.

Realize that as crazy as it sounds, most people aren't you, so before you come here and say something like "Only stupid people buy the 360 Wireless adaptor for $100 when they could have gotten such and such for $50 less."  You must understand that most people either don't care, or there time is more valuable then coming to a site like this and researching how to buy a cheaper Wireless adaptor bridge that works as good as the M$ one.  Unless you enjoy hoisting your own superiority over others to make yourself feel good, in which case, go ahead biggrin.gif

You can't expect middle aged parents to stroll around XS looking for compatible wireless bridges for their 360 can you?  I wouldn't. happy.gif

My MS-made Xbox 360 wireless adapter (and yes I paid for it -- because I knew 100% that it would work seamlessly) works seamlessly on my secured network. Why anyone would pay Apple's prices for something like Airport eludes me, but clearly they are doing something wrong no one else is doing as my 360 talks perfectly well with my LinkSys N router/WAP with security on, just like it did with my previous NetGear setup.

no, I bought a generic ethernet bridge. can't even remember the name of it. I just know first hand from helping  others using the ms-740. There was actually a tutorial for the original xbox for wireless networking in the tut section, me just being savy, I read up on networking and learned. As was mentioned previously, most people are consumers, only about 8-10% of people who actually purchse a game system would ever think of coming to this site to learn anything, much less:wireless networking, ethernet bridges, dhcp, access points, signal repeaters, or for that matter anything on hacking consoles in general and as such would not be privy to the vast amount of information this site provides. I just happend to reasearch, because I'm not one of the few who can spend that kind of money. I have to wait at least a year after the console is launched in order to make an informed descision on which console to buy.

sorry 4 the  rant. nuff respect.

The reason why the xbox adapter is so expensive is because it supports the wireless 'A' standard. For someone that lives in an apartment building with numerous wireless networks (18 in mine) of both B and G, the adoption of the less used 'A' frequency makes it worth it. Although it does not have the theoretical bandwidth of 'G', the sleek design and lack of interference with other networks makes it well worth it.

This is news worthy for 2 reasons. 1) Apple is arguably one of the top manufacturers of consumer electronic devices, with a fanbase that thinks that it can do no wrong. There really is no reason why their new router should not work with the 360. This article will probably stop hundreds of 360 owners from buying this router, saving a lot of time and hassle. 2) Not everyone has the time to sift through all of the pages of the forum to find out different tidbits of info. I personally only use the forum when I'm having a problem, or to comment on a news story.
