Xbox360 Incompatible with new Apple Airport Extreme

From tuaw.com:

TUAW reader Bryan Hughes writes in to tell us that after many unsuccessful attempts, he was unable to connect wirelessly to his Xbox 360 via Airport Extreme. [Apple's new 802.11a/b/g/pre-n wireless base station]

The Xbox 360 apparently will not recognize any network with security, whether WEP or WPA and Microsoft's tech support apparently is telling customers that Apple routers are not recommended.

Heh, sounds like a familiar story for anyone with Comcast Home Networking. Our 'customized firmware' makes those gateways incompatible with 360s (unless you have an RCA brand), PS3s (unless you turn off WEP all together) and Wiis. Since when do wireless standards not really have to be standards compliant?

Can this be said with all secure network devices? I didn't know that the 360 supported any kind of encryption. Never really looked though. Wouldn't the apple device work if you just disabled authentication?

That wont stop me from sniffing and viewing the wireless data though. MAC addresses can only slow down a hacker not stop him, plus there are plenty of other ways anyhow

Enable wireless security on your router or access point. Your wireless networking adapter supports WPA and WEP security.

Something is wrong with the other hardware, the USB WLAN is fine.

Rule #1: Nothing Apple should ever be connected to anything related to MS.

From reading the comments on the news site, previous apple routers worked fine.

That's exactly what I was thinking... The news should read "Apple's new router is incompatible with the Xbox360"  dry.gif
