If it's for direct tv yes you can. Don't know about the old receivers but all the new ones have setup instructions built into the menu.

That should help some people get it working with their remote.
Most of the remotes should also have a function to blink back the code once you have found it.

I'll be trying to get it going on the Atlas DVR (day). Seems to be the common remote for newer Motorola boxes from Shaw.

This is not really news. It also makes things harder than they need to be.

ANY WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER REMOTE will work. Also, therefore, any universal remote that has a code for a Media Center remote will do. You can find Media Center remotes all over Ebay.

JP1 guys, find the Media Center remote upgrade and it should work. OR, bring your learning remote to a store that sells Media Center PC's and learn the functions from one of the display remotes and you are good to go.

Everyone keeps posting that this is old news. Yeah it is, but it is also very informative to newcomers. And also the point here is to control the 360 with a remote you already have. Not "go get a Harmony" or " MCE remote works just fine". Alot of people have niether of those.

while useful, it seems funny that the kid who discovered this calls it a "hack". he even posted on youtube under the title "xbox 360 hack!!" umm... that's not a hack son.

There doesn't seem to be any way to get the Dish Network remote to control the 360. Too bad we got rid of Comcast, their remote has a code for the Xbox.

Don't tell me 0522... that's for the original xbox, not the 360.
