I would really like to know the code for the 360 remote, so I can program a universal...  Somebody with a directtv remote should read the manual.  there should be a section that tells you how to figure out the codes that are programmed into the remote..

i cant get the damn thing to work  and im doing it exactly as it says

could it be because my remote is an rc 16?

Step 1) Switch the DirecTV remote to av1. Point the remote away from your receiver. Press and hold the select and mute buttons until the light above the av1 switch blinks twice.
Step 2) Press 991, then press 2. Now, press Power.

Step 3) Press Channel Up 35-40 times, pausing between each press. The light above av1 should go on every time you press it.

Step 4) When your XBOX 360 turns on, you've found the right code. Immediately press Select. You're done!

Yea I followed the simple directions several times but I can't get mine to work, maybe its the remote I have.

Works great! saves me from buying the remote. My directTV remote now controls my TV, my xbox, and my 360. Perfect!

Why is this making news everywhere? Is it that slow of a news day?

The original Xbox DVD remote was manufatured by RCA, so most RCA universal remote
codes worked for it. 99 percent of IR remotes can replicated by universal remotes, and
DirecTV and Dish remotes have universal code support built in.

If it's a slow news day, maybe we should have stuff like:

"If Xbox/Xbox 360 drives have a disc read error, you can buy a new replacement laser
 and replace it!"

"NEWS FLASH! You can use rechargeable batteries on an Xbox 360 and a wall charger
 INSTEAD of the play and charge kit....this way, you can always be wireless!!!"

I wonder if the remotes that read the original remote also work.  It doesn't even matter that much to me.  I got one with my 360 and don't have direct tv anyways.  It's a nice thing for people that don't have a remote.

I wonder if my suddenlink cable remote could do that.

Wow... talking about lack of an explaination. After trying for an hour and a half I finally gave up. 30 to 50 times my ass. Come back and try the story again when you actually have a code to program into the remote that works.

The Direc TV TiVo remote also works, but the code is differant.

That picture doesn't show which model remote it is. I have the RC23 that came with my R15 DVR, and no luck after all that trying. 1½ hours is no where near 5 to 10 minutes.

Isn't there a way to have the remote tell you what the code is? Maybe someone can do it and then share with us.

I used the peanut style Tivo contoler for my HD Tivo from DirecTv
I will post the codes out of the book that i used later today when I get home from work.
